Hotel MiraCosta is a resort at Tokyo Disney Resort, residing in Tokyo DisneySea. That’s right, it’s actually inside of a theme park! Donning a Mediterranean theme, specifically Venice and Portofino inspired, just like the land the hotel is placed in, this is one of the marquee hotels at TDR. It’s also one of the very best Disney hotels in the world. In this post, we’ll review Hotel MiraCosta’s rooms, amenities, perks and value while sharing photos!
There’s a natural progression when going to Tokyo Disney Resort. First, you make a goal of simply going to the parks. That can take years to accomplish between planning the trip, tackling any overseas vacation anxiety and maybe convincing your partner/friend/family member to go with you. Then, you make it into those meccas and they blow your mind, specifically DisneySea. The next couple of days are spent galivanting around, soaking in as much as you can.
Eventually, the trip winds down and as you’re slowly making your way out of the park, you’re planning your next stay in the back of your head. As you’re doing this, you see people on their decks or looking through their windows waving at you from their boujee hotel. If you didn’t realize it already, that’s the moment where it sinks in that the next step in your Tokyo Disney Resort journey is to stay at Hotel MiraCosta.
Don’t get me wrong, I could probably sleep on a park bench for a night or two and still enjoy Tokyo Disney Resort. But how many beautiful hotels are inside of the world’s best theme park? There’s only one.
Hotel MiraCosta is lavish both on the interior and exterior. The latter is largely seen from Tokyo DisneySea, where the hotel is a backdrop to Mediterranean Harbor. Varying shades of pastels adorn the Romanesque architecture. Viewing the backside of the hotel from inside of the park, the building curves around the harbor but doesn’t have as much texture as the front of the hotel.
Inside of the hotel is just as ornate. The lobby has a gorgeous domed ceiling with murals painted into 8 different sections. Each of these murals represent a port in DisneySea, with one extra representing a planned but never delivered expansion port. Below that sits a wooden boat and seating in a circle. Elsewhere in the lobby are a couple of restaurants, including Oceano which we’ll have a review of before long, and a gift shop. Down the stairs from the lobby is a large window overlooking DisneySea and below that is the hotel’s special entrance and exit to the theme park.
As far as perks of staying at the hotel go, having a special entrance and exit to the theme park is hard to beat. I’m one of the last people out of DisneySea on most nights and being able to exit right there and be in my room 5 minutes later was a wonderful treat, both for my sleeping habits and for my feet. MiraCosta (as well as other official Tokyo Disney Resort hotels) will also give guests an extra 15 minutes into the park before everyone else in the morning. This will lead to an easy first ride without much of a line. It doesn’t seem like that big of a perk but it is on a busy day. Lately, that hasn’t been offered at DisneySea as often but has been offered at Tokyo Disneyland.
The other amenity I haven’t included yet is Terme Venezia, the hotel’s pool and spa. There is an entry fee of 3,000 yen or 4,000 yen in the summer, which amounts to roughly $21 or $28 as of February 2024. That’s undoubtedly steep for pool use but the facilities are immaculate. The outside pool looked somewhat ordinary (it was the winter so we couldn’t get a great look) but very well kept. The inside pool and spa is inspired by an ancient Roman bath. This isn’t your typical hotel pool where you let the kids go splash around for a while, this area feels very classy and extremely well thought out. You’ll feel like you should be in a James Bond movie diving in to the pool and emerging! There’s also a pool bar. If you have the means, planning an afternoon around spending time here is well worth it.
Moving on to the room, there are three sides you could be on – Tuscany, Porto Paradiso and Venice. These all correspond to the view you’ll have of the park. Tuscany shows off the entrance to DisneySea including the gates to get in and the AquaSphere. Venice will show off the Venetian Gondolas and surroundings. Not all of the rooms in these areas will have park views. Porto Paradiso, the most expensive option, will have the grand view of the piazza and Mt. Prometheus. All of the rooms on that side are guaranteed a view.
We ended up on the Venice side with a patio room that had the outdoor pool just outside of the gate. This would be an incredible room in the summer and was still a relaxing and pretty place in the winter months. We went for the cheaper option. Though the Porto Paradiso side will undoubtedly be cooler, I don’t think there’s a bad choice in the bunch.
Let’s take a look around the room. Above is the door which isn’t the most thrilling place to start. You can see the light pink (almost tan) pastel wallpaper that was throughout the room, as well as the blue carpet.
We’ll get the bathroom out of the way, which was right by the entrance. Above is the ornate, gold sink and mirror with the shower/bath room on one side and the toilet room on the other, as is Japanese custom. I didn’t take a photo of the toilet this time but, trust me, it looked like a toilet.
This is the shower/bath, which was large and had some beautiful tile. You can see Mickey in his Mediterranean garb on the front of the door. He is not on the back of the door, in case you were worried about Mickey watching you while you showered. I’m losing the plot… This is a really nice shower and/or bath! You can do whichever! Heck, you could do both at the same time.
Here’s a few of the in-room amenities including pajamas, a coffee maker and mugs. Not pictured are slippers and basic toiletries for your use!
Here’s a full view of the room before we take a closer look at some spots. As you can see, there are three beds and the room is pretty spacious. There’s a trundle bed that can be pulled out next to the far table with the lamp on it, to sleep a fourth if need be. You can barely see the ceiling in the photo because it’s quite high, I would guess 12 feet or so. That was one of my favorite features of the room.
Here’s a closer look at the two double beds. The theme and decor throughout the room isn’t over the top but is noticeable. They did a nice job of threading that needle between luxury and a Disney Resort.
This headboard is another favorite feature. The headboards change depending on which side you’re staying on and the Venetian Gondola theme is top notch.
The bed on the side of the room sits below a Mickey map, blending the DisneySea vibes in to the room seamlessly. The TV is pretty small but chances are that if you’re booking this room it isn’t to watch TV!
For those that were waiting for an up close look of the table with the lamp on it, your time is now. The detailing on the chairs is pretty. I don’t have much else to add here!
Finally, here’s the patio from the reverse angle as before. It’s large and full of beautiful foliage. I wish there was a little table to sit out here and have a coffee in the morning but that’s a small nitpick for a gorgeous area.
The room may be the one area where I thought the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel was on par with Hotel MiraCosta. All of the amenities and the views beat it but the rooms were pretty even in my eyes. That’s not to say they’re a disappointment. On the contrary, both are 2 of the best Disney hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in.
If you’ve made it this far in the review then you’ll notice that I have yet to bring up the cost. Is there any value to be had at Hotel MiraCosta, especially with quality hotels right next to the resort that are generally had for fair prices? There’s good news and bad news.
The good news is that Hotel MiraCosta has rooms for around $400/night at times during the year. You may have to dig a little and it will definitely need to be on a weeknight but it’s readily available even as I’m looking now for a few months out. That’s cheaper than many of Walt Disney World’s and Disneyland’s luxury resorts. Yes, some of that is depending on the exchange rate which is very favorable at the moment.
The bad news is that this is the most expensive hotel at the resort, on par with the Fantasy Springs Hotel. There are much better deals to be had and if you’re looking for value then MiraCosta probably isn’t the right choice, unless the value you’re actually looking for is saving your feet from a few more steps.
Value is not the point of the hotel though and it all is relative. There’s no way, as I pointed out, that a hotel this nice that’s inside of a great theme park would ever be found for that prices in the states. With that in mind, it’s a great deal! And because of that location, I didn’t feel a strong sense of needing to spend ample time at the resort to soak it in and feel like it was worth the cost like I would if I was staying at, say, the Polynesian or Grand Californian. Hotel MiraCosta is a part of DisneySea for one, and two, you leave the park and you’re there. It truly was an extension of the glorious park day.
If you couldn’t tell from the previous 1,700 words, I adore Hotel MiraCosta. I would recommend it, even for just a night if that’s what your budget demands. The hotel is integrated perfectly into the design of DisneySea while still feeling peaceful and luxurious. It’s my favorite Disney hotel that I’ve experienced. If I didn’t want to review every hotel in Tokyo Disney Resort’s near vicinity, I would look to spend at least a night here every trip.
Overall Rating – 10/10
