News about Disney Lakeshore Lodge keeps trickling out to the point where the steady stream has turned into a (lazy) river! This week saw Disney sharing information on one of the most anticipated parts of the new hotel – the pool area. In this post, we’ll share the details and concept art for the pool area at Disney Lakeshore Lodge, adding in our commentary along the way.

A few months ago, Disney started releasing details on their upcoming resort. That included a summer 2027 opening season and inspiration for the resort’s 967 rooms. Lakeshore Lodge will sit near Fort Wilderness, in the old River Country spot that’s up against Bay Lake. That, plus the construction photos, have made expectations for the pool area sky high. Here are the details on it!
When Disney Lakeshore Lodge opens at Walt Disney World, guests will be invited to relax, unwind, and reconnect with nature at The Wetlands, a sweeping outdoor recreation area just beyond the lobby that’s surrounded by the beauty of Bay Lake.

The Wetlands will be designed with both fun and relaxation in mind. Younger guests will become part of nature’s story through whimsical wet and dry play areas inspired by the music and storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas. Drawing from the lyrics “the heron and the otter are my friends” from the beloved song “Colors of the Wind,” these vibrant spaces will celebrate the playful connections found in nature.
Before we get too deep into the weeds wetlands, I’ll reiterate one of our usual talking points. Judging a project based on concept art is certainly premature and also a little bit silly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to do it but take everything with a grain of salt.
With that out of the way, the art above (and below) isn’t my favorite. Some of that is likely because it appears to be AI-driven and has a glossy fakeness to it. This splash area does look fun enough and includes giant otters, so it’s impossible to be disappointed in it. I’m unconvinced by “the tall grass” coming out from the ground but am choosing to believe it will look better in reality.

Heron Shores will welcome exploration and hands‑on play with imaginative climbing features, while just around the riverbend, Otter Springs will come to life with interactive water features where little ones can cool off as they splash and slide. Nearby, the lazy Daydream River will invite guests to sit back and relax as the current carries them through the recreation area, offering a leisurely way to take in views of the surrounding landscape.
I like the integration of some dry play areas into the space. It should lead to the whole area having something for everyone. And we all love a lazy river! You can see the giant herons above, that should add some texture throughout the area.
At the heart of The Wetlands will be Lakeside Lagoon, the resort’s zero‑entry feature pool where guests of all ages can come together under the Florida sun, complete with a spiral waterslide that leads into the refreshing water. Tucked away on the opposite side of the resort, Perspective Pond will be home to a leisure pool and whirlpool spa, perfectly positioned for views of Magic Kingdom fireworks in the evenings.

All of these spaces in the concept just look a little bland to me. My fear of Lakeshore Lodge turning into a glorified Marriott might be poking through here in my commentary. And to be sure, this pool area looks very nice! There’s lots of room and excellent amenities. But the lack of theme, even in the concept art, is a bit jarring to me.
There are some references to River Country, both in the design and in the recreation area. Guests can make their way along a scenic path through the recreation area, they’ll uncover fun facts about the local flora and fauna that surrounds them. Keep an eye out for a special plaque that honors a beloved historic attraction that once stood on this very spot!
Even with them evoking the old water park, seeing the water slide very much just looking like a water slide is strange. I don’t think any other Disney hotel has done that, as it’s usually dressed up in the pool’s theme. On the other hand, I’m very excited by the description of Perspective Pond. The resort is huge and I’m guessing that there will be so much to explore.
My skepticism with the art notwithstanding, the area in total does look beautiful. Whether you choose to start your morning with a peaceful float along the Daydream River or end your day watching the sun set over Bay Lake, each area of The Wetlands will offer a distinct connection to nature, balancing breathtaking beauty and tranquility with moments of discovery and play.

I’m still optimistic about this space and it should be a highlight of Lakeshore Lodge. Having a pool area right alongside Bay Lake should make this a beautiful spot to walk around. This was never really in doubt but Disney has also confirmed that boat transportation to Magic Kingdom will be available.
As a whole, this information about The Wetlands hasn’t really moved the needle for me. There are parts of this resort that I’m very optimistic about and others that I’m in wait and see mode. We’re looking forward to more details being released!
