A new year means another new edition of this website’s Disney Theme Park Rankings! I know so many people have been waiting on pins and needles for the 2025 drop. We’ve received thousands of emails about the lack of sleep people are getting while anxiously awaiting this post! Well, not really. But this has become one of my favorite pet projects every year, and is an easy way to check in on how I personally view each of the Disney theme parks we’ve been to. In this post, we’ll rank the current version of the theme parks in Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disney Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort!
2024 brought changes to all of the resorts. The most notable of those changes was Fantasy Springs opening in Tokyo DisneySea. Outside of a frustrating and overly complicated entry process, the expansion has been a home run! At both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened to varying reviews. While more successful at Disneyland, the Splash Mountain replacement is, at the very least, an enjoyable addition. Several new entertainment options debuted across the three different resorts, as well.
2025 has been quieter abroad but seen changes in the domestic parks. Disneyland Resort has celebrated happy with their 70th anniversary. At Walt Disney World, Hollywood Studios has new shows, Magic Kingdom has a fresh nighttime parade and Epcot reimagined Test Track. Now the year is coming to a close and we’ve got time for one last update to this post, seeing how we just got back from visiting our 9th and 10th Disney theme parks for the year.
As for this year and this post, the ten parks I’m ranking are the ten I’ve been to – all six in the U.S., two in Paris and the two Tokyo Disney Resort Parks. For those curious, the domestic Universal Parks aren’t ranked on the list but would be in the lower half if they were. For many years, this post only included 8 parks but we’ve recently returned from France and are eager to add those to the mix.
These are clearly all my opinion and while there are reasons the rankings fall as they do, I do enjoy all eight parks on the list. Some are just better than others. Let’s get to the rankings!
10. Walt Disney Studios Park
For years I’d heard the criticism of the second gate at Disneyland Paris but it took going to really understand it. Walt Disney Studios Park is an absolute mess. That’s especially true in 2025, when seemingly half of the walkways are behind construction walls. The ride roster isn’t very good, sporting 11 attractions with only a few highlights. But that takes a backseat in our complaining compared to just how ugly Walt Disney Studios Park is. There’s no theme, no cohesiveness and very few buildings that are interesting to look at. Thankfully, all of those construction walls will improve the park starting next year with the opening of a Frozen themed land. For now, WDSP is in last place by a wide margin.
9. Hollywood Studios
Picking my second worst park was much harder than picking last place. Not to spoil the next paragraph but the competition is pretty tight between DHS and DCA for 8th and 9th. They split several categories – Hollywood Studios has more marquee attractions while California Adventure has a greater quantity. Entertainment is opposite of that. Hollywood Studios food has gotten progressively better over time but doesn’t quite measure up to DCA, but the theme in DHS is slightly more coherent. So when it came down to deciding who gets stuck in last place (until Walt Disney Studios Park makes a bid for it) I picked the park that I enjoyed hanging out in the least. Sadly, that’s DHS. The layout of the park is maddening, whether it’s your first time or thousandth time. On top of that, the capacity is not high enough so the lines are always long. The caveat here is that if thrill rides are all you care about then this would jump up to the top half of the list!
8. California Adventure
California Adventure is very good at a couple of things. The food is among the best of any Disney theme park and continues to get better. DCA is also home to some enjoyable festivals that feature great live entertainment. The park also has a decent capacity, with a lot of rides. Unfortunately, many of those rides are forgettable and they don’t all mesh well together. Eventually, the ‘California’ title should be abandoned as most of the thought behind that theme has been left behind. Even so, California Adventure is a solid theme park.
7. Animal Kingdom
One of my favorite theme parks to hang out in is knocked way down the list because of the lack of attractions. Everything else about Animal Kingdom scratches my theme park enthusiast itch – it’s beautiful, lush, immersive and has a broad theme. That’s before I even get to the wonderful food and entertainment. But a theme park not having double digit rides 25+ years after it opens is a disaster. Once Tropical Americas opens (and hopefully other attractions in the next 5 years) this should move quickly back up the list.
6. Epcot
Unlike Magic Kingdom, Epcot appears to be in a holding pattern for the time being. We like the reimagined Test Track but now I’m not sure what comes next. Hopefully more! The remake of the front half of Epcot has been varying degrees of successful. There’s some areas I really like and some I really don’t. Cosmic Rewind is an undeniable hit, no matter what I think about the fit. Journey of Water is smaller but a lovely addition that fits into Epcot seamlessly. Those help make up for some of the more confounding choices but it was an unrealized project in total. Then there’s always the dependable World Showcase, where walking around the loop is still as lovely as it always has been. Epcot is the best idea for a theme park and that groundwork still makes for a successful park, even if the idea looks a little different these days.
5. Magic Kingdom
My least favorite of the castle parks has slowly improved over the last few years and looks to take a big jump in the future. Tron and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure both have their issues but they are also big attractions that make the park better overall. Magic Kingdom still has the worst food of any of the theme parks on this list but even that has seen some recent improvements. Happily Ever After (the fireworks show), Starlight and so many great attractions make this a big jump above the bottom 4, and I’ll hold the park in the top 5 through the end of the year.
4. Disneyland Paris
The most beautiful of the castle parks I’ve been in, Disneyland Paris (or Parc Disneyland) has views that are hard to get over. The intricate Main Street Arcades that lead into the beautiful Sleeping Beauty Castle on the hillside is stunning. I also love all of the exploratory attractions and areas, notably Adventure Isle and some paths around the castle. The park could use some help in the quick-service dining department and I’d love to see a few more unique attractions. But those complaints are secondary to all of the beauty throughout.
3. Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland and the classic Disneyland are neck and neck for me as the best castle park. A few things stick out about the TDL experience. There is less down time for attractions and everything seems to operate better. While Disneyland has the impressive Rise of the Resistance, TDL has built up a wealth of modern dark rides like Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast and Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek. Finally, Tokyo Disneyland boasts the best parade I’ve ever seen – Dreamlights. I’ve dropped the park to number three for now but it’s likely only a matter of time before it regains the second place title.
2. Disneyland
The top 3 are in their own tier and Disneyland and has moved up to number 2 with the 70th anniversary offerings. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a good addition to DL, even if it’s not as good of a ride as the predecessor. There are an outstanding amount of attractions at Disneyland and a surprising amount of quality among them. That alone is worthy of being at the top half of this list. Then add in the charm, history, food and design and this ends up being one of the best theme parks in the world. The added nighttime entertainment moves this up to the number 2 spot for the time being.
1. Tokyo DisneySea
I sing (well, I guess write?) the praises of Tokyo DisneySea constantly. There are small nits to pick like the frustrating Fantasy Springs wait times and lack of entertainment coming back after COVID. But most of that melts away as soon as you enter Mediterranean Harbor and see that volcano. What follows is a beautifully made theme park, with thoughtful transitions and gorgeous sights. On top of that, DisneySea has some of the best attractions around now thanks to Fantasy Springs. The park will remain number one and it would take a substantial effort or expansion elsewhere for it to be knocked off that spot.

We haven’t been to them yet so I didn’t include them. Hoping to get to at least Hong Kong in the next few years.
