San Angel Inn is a table-service restaurant inside of Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion. The restaurant is one of World Showcase’s most immersive, sitting alongside the Gran Fiesta Tour boat ride and pyramid. Serving a variety of Mexican food, San Angel Inn is a part of a the Disney Dining Plan as a table-service credit and also offers an Annual Pass discount to those not using the DDP. In this post, we’ll review San Angel Inn Restaurante’s atmosphere, cuisine and value.
The list of restaurants that overlook a theme park attraction is small. Blue Bayou residing next to Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean is the most famous example, unquestionably inspiring San Angel Inn in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion. Both of those restaurants come with a built-in atmosphere thanks to the theme of the attraction. With all due respect to the Three Caballeros, comparing Pirates of the Caribbean to Gran Fiesta Tour is less apples to oranges and more a really big, delicious apple to a mediocre, small one. But that matters less to the restaurants sitting next to them.
In some ways, at least atmospherically, San Angel Inn could be described as a knockoff Blue Bayou. But I think that’s underselling the World Showcase restaurant. There’s ample seating by the water here, probably more than at Disneyland’s famous spot. The seats away from the water are raised so you’ll likely be able to see the attraction unless you’re in a corner somewhere. Between the giant pyramid used for the ride and the rest of the Mexico Pavilion’s great setting, there’s more to look at in San Angel Inn than Blue Bayou.
San Angel Inn is missing the lore and prestige that Blue Bayou has, no doubt. But if you take away the history, I could be convinced that the Epcot option of ‘restaurant by a slow boat ride’ has the better atmosphere. In reality, that doesn’t matter all that much. People going to Disney World don’t need to choose between Blue Bayou or San Angel Inn to fulfill their restaurants overlooking rides needs. But this is a website on the internet so we can’t help but compare. Really, it’s a long winded intro to me saying that San Angel Inn has a unique and excellent atmosphere.
The restaurant is popular and they pack the tables in pretty tight. For being a smaller area, there’s a lot of diners in the space! This isn’t extremely noticeable if you’re seated along the edges of San Angel Inn. Those tables have an intimate and romantic setting, with the manmade blue hour overhead. If seated in the middle then it’s a little tighter but I don’t think that would ruin anyone’s experience.
As I’ve already mentioned, the highlight of dining here is watching the boats pass by the pyramid. If waving is your thing, you’ve come to the right place! Boats continuously pass the restaurant and the lighting is bright enough for some good people watching. The backdrop behind the pyramid is one place where you can knock the environment, as it can look artificial. But that’s picking nits on a unique setting.
Turning our focus away from the attraction and pyramid, the rest of the Mexico Pavilion is beautiful too! That plays less of role in San Angel Inn but is still noticeable from most seats. All of it adds to a festive setting that might be slightly louder than your typical restaurant but not distractingly so.
As a whole, San Angel Inn has one of the best atmospheres of any restaurant at Walt Disney World. Being next to an attraction is unique and the rest of the indoor pavilion is beautiful.
Moving to the food, here’s a look at the menu. Entrees vary in price but the majority are between $30-$40. Note that the Carne Asada is not included in the Disney Dining Plan.
We’ve tried a few different drinks from San Angel Inn, including the famed La Cava Avocado Margarita. This blended drink consists of Flecha Azul blanco tequila, melon orange liqueur, fresh avocado, lime juice, hibiscus and a salt salt rim. I generally can take or leave avocado but was blown away by this drink. It was refreshing, with the lime and avocado balanced well.
The other drink we tried was The Cucumber. This margarita was made up of Tromba blanco tequila, fresh cucumber and lime juice, orange liqueur, Abasolo corn whiskey, agave, and Tajín chile-lime powder rim. I enjoyed this drink as well but didn’t find it special. Cucumber margaritas are typically my favorite flavor of marg but this one was pretty run-of-the-mill. The cucumber was at the front of the drink and the tequila was good, but I’ve had much better versions of this elsewhere.
Moving to the entrees, this was the catch of a day – Corvina. While the preparation for the fish changes here and there, this was served on top of rice and a tomato based sauce that was filled with peppers and onions. We loved the fish, finding it perfectly cooked and buttery. The sauce because a little overpowering by the end but I still thought it was a nice iteration of the typical fish entree at Disney World.
Currently the fish is known as Pescado A La Veracruzana on the menu. As of September 2025, that consists of the catch of the day atop a corn rice medley with a cilantro lime vinaigrette made with capers, olives, bell peppers, Spanish onions, and tomatoes. This isn’t too dramatic of a departure from what we mentioned above. At $39, this is the best value play if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan and a delicious option.
For our other entree we ordered the Osso Bucco Con Mole Negro. The slow braised pork shank fell off the bone and was nicely paired with the Mole Negro over rice. The Mole gave the dish a little sweetness to go along with the savory pork. While not the best Mole you’ll ever find, I thought this was a pretty impressive take on it for a theme park restaurant. The plate also came with plantains topped with crema Mexicana and cotija cheese. This dish is also $39.
I wouldn’t call either entree incredible. Neither of them reach the point where we are itching to get back to Disney World and immediately have them again. But they were more sophisticated than you might expect and delicious. If anything, they ended up a little heavy on the salty side but Melissa and I didn’t have many complaints about either dish.
To top off the meal, we ordered the Pan de Elote Tres Leches. I’ve never met a Tres Leches I don’t like and this was no exception. For $12, this dessert was made up of milk-soaked sponge cake topped with sweet corn ice cream and toasted almonds. The cake and cream below it were fantastic, moist with just a few almonds to add texture. I’m less sure on the sweet corn ice cream as it took the ‘sweetness’ job a little too seriously for my tastes and started to make the whole dish a little one note after a while. I liked this dessert but didn’t love it.
While the food wasn’t exceptional at San Angel Inn, I did think it was a really strong World Showcase restaurant. There was a nice level of creativity to pair with delicious dishes. That fell in line with the prices, as they weren’t the highest tags at WDW but dining here does cost a decent amount. Next time we dine here, I’d be curious what a meal of sharing some appetizers and getting a few cocktails would be like. That might be the perfect way to experience the atmosphere while keeping the price lower.
We did enjoy the full experience though and didn’t come away thinking San Angel Inn was a bad value. That’s especially true when factoring in the atmosphere. Not everyday that you get to sip on a margarita while sitting in front of large pyramid while boats pass by! I wish that was everyday. The only way to make that better is if the Three Caballeros were drinking with you. Oh, the stories they’d tell! This started off as conclusion paragraph but it really got away from me.
San Angel Inn lacks the top tier dishes it needs to become one of Walt Disney World’s best restaurants. But the food is strong and the atmosphere is even better, planting this safely as one of the better World Showcase restaurants. It might not have the lore of Disneyland’s Blue Bayou, but the experience is nearly as good.
Overall Rating – 8.5/10
