Questions of the Week

Question of the Week (11/4/18)

Every few weeks our writers get together and answer a Disney Parks related question.  Here is this week’s edition!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you could see the ins and outs of an attraction, walking through it with lights on and in the backstage areas, which attraction would you choose?

Melissa – Space Mountain. I think it would the thrill level even higher if you got to go on a special tour of the entire attraction, from seeing control room to the building with all its lights on inside. It would also be cool to see all the items that get left behind on that ride because guests didn’t listen to the instructions. Then after getting to see the “guts” of the building you’d get to ride the ride twice – once with the lights on and then once with the lights off as the ride is meant to be ridden. I think it would get your adrenaline running pretty high and would be super fun to experience. I mean…it’s always been a secret dream of mine to get stuck on Space Mountain and have to finish the ride with the lights on!

Leslie – This is a hard question to answer. I’ve seen Haunted Mansion with the lights on, and surprisingly it ruined it for me, probably because the ride is meant to be enjoyed in darkness. I’d probably say I’d like a closer look at Star Tours. I get that it would mean a closer look at the Queue which I would love to see. I’d also like to think it means I get a chance to see just how the ride gets put together, how they choose who the Rebel Spy is and the flight path you take!

Mackenzie – I have spent all day trying to think of an answer… I would pick Pirates of the Caribbean. This is one of my all time favorite rides. I would love to see all the details in the different scenes that I can’t see from the ride. I would also love to see all the mechanics of this ride. There is also a bridge in this ride that I would love to walk across/stand on..just to see the ride from a different point of view. Seeing all the maintenance it takes to keep up this ride from costumes to the boats would be fascinating. It would all be extremely interesting!

Andrew – Kilimanjaro Safaris would be a top choice but that tour, Wild Africa Trek, already exists (and we were able to do it). It’s outstanding and worthy of the top choice. I was going to choose Haunted Mansion but, like Leslie said, I’m somewhat worried about some illusions being ruined. With all that in mind (and because Mackenzie just took Pirates), I’m going to go with Jungle Cruise. There is so much to look at throughout the attraction. Having an insiders look at how the timing mechanisms work along with seeing how cast members access the ride’s scenes would be very interesting. I’d also like to see how much actual space the attraction takes up by walking around it. Getting a skipper’s actual perspective on the attraction would be enjoyable as well.

Darin – The correct answer here is Space Mountain, I think that would be amazing to see all the in and outs of that ride. I am going to be different though and pick Indiana Jones (either from Disneyland or DisenySea). I would enjoy looking at how all the tricks in there work and what the drop looks like from a different angle. Also, I think it would be funny to watch Indy just hang there for a while. Do I get to ride this attraction too? It is always closed when I go to Disneyland.
