Opening Date Announced for Tokyo Disneyland’s Wreck-it Ralph Attraction! No Date for Space Mountain Earthrise

Oriental Land Company and Tokyo Disney Resort have announced an opening date for the Wreck-it Ralph attraction coming to Tokyo Disneyland! Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue will officially open on April 15th, 2027! The bigger attraction in this Tomorrowland update, Space Mountain Earthrise, did not receive an opening date yet. In this post, we’ll share the news about Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland renovation and add in our commentary.

As a little bit of background, this Tomorrowland renovation started back in 2024. The main features included a brand new Space Mountain, a rebranding of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, a new plaza, and a few more shops and restaurants. While this might all sound like a redo of what was already there, the budget is astronomical and there’s reason to think each of these additions will be fantastic upgrades on what they replaced. Of the current projects going on at Disney Parks around the world, this is among our most anticipated.

April 15th is not a surprising date for the opening Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. That will be Tokyo Disneyland’s 44th anniversary and has historically been a common opening date for new attractions at that park. The biggest surprise in this news is what wasn’t announced, but more on that later. Let’s get to the news that Tokyo Disney Resort shared.

Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue Opening Date & Details

Tokyo Disney Resort has announced that Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, a new attraction themed to the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Wreck-It Ralph, is set to open on April 15, 2027. On the 44th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland, a new “tomorrow” will begin with the launch of Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue.

Guests can look forward to the continued evolution of Tomorrowland with the addition of Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, followed later by the Space Mountain Earthrise attraction, as well as Tomorrowland Plaza at the heart of the themed land and new shops and restaurants that will open as they become ready.

Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is the world’s first attraction themed to the Disney Animation film Wreck-It Ralph. King Candy, who is plotting to take over the world of video games, has set his sights on “Sugar Rush,” a candy-themed racing game. He has transformed the confections throughout the world of Sugar Rush, including gumdrops and ice cream, into Sugar Bugs programmed to consume the entire kingdom.

Guests will enter the colorful world of the game and join forces with Ralph, Vanellope and their friends as they travel through a variety of scenes, working to restore the Sugar Bugs to their original “kawaii” forms before they can destroy the candy-filled world. New music composed and recorded by Henry Jackman, the composer of Wreck-It Ralph, will further immerse guests in the adventure.

Using scanners installed in the ride vehicles that transport them into the game, guests must work together to defend Sugar Rush from King Candy. Points are earned based on factors such as the types and number of Sugar Bugs restored. Guests can view their results on the display in each vehicle and, for a limited time after the experience, on the Tokyo Disney Resort App. Photos captured during the experience will also be automatically added to My Photos on the App and available for purchase.

A slew of other opening dates were also announced for Tokyo Disneyland including…

Pixel Prism – Opening April 15th, 2027

Located next to Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, Pixel Prism is a shop that will offer attraction-related items and a variety of other merchandise.

The location’s design takes inspiration from fiber optics and incorporates pixel-patterned flooring and game-inspired motifs throughout. A large pixel structure will shine at the entrance. The digital marketplace-themed setting offers a vibrant space where guests can shop for a variety of merchandise.

Popping Station – March 17th, 2027

Located near Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue and overlooking Tomorrowland Plaza, Popping Station will bring to life the idea of a popular popcorn stand in space. The building will feature a luminous blue-white design that is especially eye-catching at night. Guests can enjoy freshly popped popcorn here at this new popcorn stand in Tomorrowland.

Special Merchandise & Menus

Special merchandise and menu items will be available for sale to mark the grand opening of the attraction. Guests can take home memories of their experience through a range of merchandise: postcards featuring Ralph and Vanellope playing games in Sugar Rush as well as postcards with Sugar Bug designs, plush toys of characters who appear in the attraction, other toys, candies and more.

Popping Station and popcorn wagons throughout Tokyo Disneyland will offer Sugar-Lime Popcorn, a new flavor inspired by the Sugar Bugs that appear in Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. Guests can enjoy its juicy, sweet-and-tart flavor.

Additionally, special menu items commemorating the opening of the attraction will be offered at various restaurants throughout Tokyo Disneyland, further enhancing the experience.

Grand Opening Celebration

In celebration of the grand opening of Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, themed experiences and offerings across the park will extend the fun and excitement of the new attraction.

Beginning January 12, 2027, guests can train to help save the world of Sugar Rush through a smartphone mini-game. The game can be enjoyed at home, as well as in a special version available in select areas of Tokyo Disneyland that incorporates park scenery as its background. The mini-game can be accessed through the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Website and official social media accounts, as well as by scanning the code printed on the back of a special sticker offered ahead of the attraction’s grand opening.

February 18, 2027 will bring attraction-inspired decorations throughout Tomorrowland, allowing guests to take photos of and with the sweet world of the attraction. Lastly, starting March 18, 2027, a projection-mapping program will illuminate Cinderella Castle with imagery inspired by the attraction.

Commentary

We’ve been expecting an opening date announcement over the last few weeks and now we have one! Funnily enough, the news came out while we were waiting to board the Tokyo Disney Resort Monorail. We just got to the TDR and are excited to spend a few days in the parks! Let’s start with the Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue news.

As I mentioned, April 15th is not a surprising date. While this attraction is taking over the Buzz spot, I wouldn’t necessarily think of it as a retheme. Yes, the ride concept of being an interactive game using lasers will still be there but the budget is much higher than I expected. After seeing what Magic Kingdom did to plus Buzz, my hopes for Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue are very high.

All of the festivities and opening dates around it should add to the excitement. The one that caught my eye is the Popping Station, with its view of Tomorrowland Plaza, opening March 17th. I don’t think there’s necessarily anything to glean from that but it was interesting wording.

Everything else in this news release points to Space Mountain Earthrise and Tomorrowland Plaza opening after Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. That’s a bit of a surprise! Space Mountain Earthrise looks very close to ready from the outside. They are still building a few things behind the attraction, although I couldn’t tell you for what. That is the only noticeable construction going on around the building facade from outside of the park.

This is complete conjecture but I think Oriental Land Company and Tokyo Disney Resort expected to open all of their new look Tomorrowland on April 15th. Maybe there have been a few delays to set some of the projects back a bit.

In the past, the resort has said that Space Mountain will open in spring of 2027. Technically, the website now says that Tomorrowland will undergo major evolution starting in spring of 2027. That could mean nothing, it could mean something.

I’d like to think that more news is coming about the Space Mountain Earthrise opening date. Oriental Land Company is generally forthright about these things. This could absolutely be a case of them just not knowing when they’ll be able to open the ride! Time will tell on that and we’ll be sure to update this website when it happens.

For now, we’re excited to see a date for the Wreck-it Ralph attraction. We remain bullish on the Tomorrowland renovation as a whole and can’t wait to see it come to life next year!
