Tokyo Disney Resort and Oriental Land Company announced that a new show will be coming to DisneySea in the fall of 2027. The show is called “Bring the Rhythm!” and will take over the Broadway Music Theatre in the American Waterfront. This announcement comes roughly a year after Big Band Beat ended in that same theatre. In this post, we’ll share the news before adding our commentary.

Seeing how this show is still a year away from a debut, details are sparse. Tokyo Disney Resort did share a bit of information, including several promising nuggets through the description.

“Bring the Rhythm!” will be a (roughly) 25-minute show that combines stunning performances and dazzling theatrical production in a new stage show that traverses the streets of the Big City. Drawing inspiration from the lively, celebrated style of Broadway, the show features live vocals and music, as well as a variety of dances by Disney friends and dancers set to fresh musical arrangements. Together with dynamic lighting and visual effects, guests will feel as if they themselves are journeying through the metropolis.

Notably, Oriental Land Company also announced that they are investing 10 billion Japanese yen into the show. As of September 2026, that’s roughly equal to 64 million American dollars. Tokyo Disney Resort doesn’t do anything small and this is no exception. That high dollar amount is promising, showing that those in charge of the park realize that Bring the Rhythm has some large shoes to fill.

I’m sure some of that money will go towards new infrastructure in Broadway Music Theatre itself. Some new technology will likely be added, as well as clean up and hopefully some practical additions. That doesn’t change the fact that this production is costing more than a number of nighttime spectaculars cost. Heck, it’s probably costing more than a few smaller rides cost! Oriental Land Company has always understood that you spend big in order to get the highest quality and that hasn’t changed, even with the massive inflation.

Let’s get the downside of this announcement out of the way. This show not debuting for another year is frustrating. Tokyo DisneySea and their crammed lines needed this show to open yesterday. Or a year ago! While there have been a couple of entertainment additions and steps taken in order to accommodate the park’s crushing demand, few seem as prominent as a gorgeous 1,500 seat theater sitting empty when it could offer multiple show times per day. Maybe there’s a secret agreement between this park and California Adventure, we’ll have to investigate.

Even if the debut date is farther out than what we want, this announcement is good news – both the content of it and that there’s something announced for the theater. Seeing the press release and different descriptions of the show put an emphasis on live vocals and dancing is promising. And while I picked nits with the debut date being so far out, the optimist would point to them taking their time in developing this as a good thing. It is much better than a rush job.

That’s what’s needed in replacing one of our favorite theme park shows of all time. Big Band Beat was exceptional (pre-COVID version specifically), featuring some of the best live performances we’ve seen in a park along with characters who made the show come alive. Mickey Mouse’s drum solo as the finale was a true ‘drop the mic’ moment. Or is it “drop the drumsticks” in that case?

For a long time, Big Band Beat was our favorite Disney Parks stage show by a wide margin. It still probably is, although The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands at Disneyland Paris is close. The dedication to theme, craft, and performance at Big Band Beat were unmatched. You might think the replicating a Broadway style show was just lip service but, in Big Band Beat’s case, it wasn’t. The quality was there.

Here’s hoping that Bring the Rhythm will be a spiritual successor to Big Band Beat. The description seems promising, it could have described the previous show. Oriental Land Company knows that this replacement needs to knock everyone’s socks off. Replacing a legend isn’t easy.

For their part, Tokyo Disney Resort does seem to be putting an emphasis back on entertainment in the last year or so. A new stage show, The D-Groovationz4 Live: Happy! Funky! Groovy! Tour, is about to debut in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. Dance the Globe, also in Tokyo DisneySea’s American Waterfront, debuted earlier this year.

While neither of those shows are at the scale of Bring the Rhythm, it’s exciting to see TDR get back to a spot where entertainment is an asset, not something that is noticeably missing post pandemic.
