The Best Shows at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is home to fantastic entertainment, spread throughout the four theme parks. Between live stage shows, nighttime spectaculars, short films and atmospheric entertainment, there is an incredible amount to see. In fact, you probably won’t get to it all. We’ve got you covered though! In this post, we’ll share our favorite entertainment at Walt Disney World, breaking them down into different categories.

Entertainment is a wide umbrella to place all of the WDW shows in. Nighttime spectaculars are obviously quite different from the ragtime piano player on Main Street. Both are great but comparing them to each other doesn’t seem fair. That’s never stopped me in ranking things before but I have to draw the line somewhere. Instead of a straight ranking, I’m going to put 4 entries into each of these categories:

  • Nighttime Spectaculars – Big, grand nighttime shows!
  • Stage Shows – Shows that have stages or, at the very least, theater seating.
  • Atmospheric Entertainment – You can easily stumble upon these bits of entertainment, coming and going as you please.
  • Seasonal entertainment – This is self-explanatory, shows that happen seasonally.

I’m limiting myself to four in each category, with a few cheats here and there. Some categories have way more options than others. The one bit of entertainment that didn’t really fit into any category is Magic Kingdom’s daytime parade, Festival of Fantasy. If you like parades then you’ll probably like this! It’s not mind blowing but still worth seeing.

I’ll probably shout out other shows along the way, as sticking just to this list will have you missing some fun options. But there’s only so much time in a day! Here are a few essentials that we don’t think you should miss while at Walt Disney World.

The Nighttime Spectaculars

Happily Ever After (MK)

There’s no better place to start this list than with the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Happily Ever After remains a great show – full of surprises, wonderful songs and beautiful pyro. Fireworks exploding behind the castle is iconic and something you shouldn’t miss on a Disney World trip.

Disney Starlight (MK)

What better to pair with fireworks than a nighttime parade? Disney Starlight isn’t the best nighttime parade we’ve ever seen but it is a great combo with Happily Ever After and looks gorgeous going down Magic Kingdom’s streets.

Luminous The Symphony of Us (Epcot)

As far as Epcot fireworks go, we’re mixed on Luminous. The show’s pacing and emotional impact don’t always work for us. With that out of the way, watching the pyro while gathering around the lagoon is exceptional and will impress pretty much anyone.

Fantasmic! (DHS)

With the disappointing death of Murphy at Disneyland, is Hollywood Studios version of Fantasmic the current best? It certainly makes an argument for the title and seeing the elaborate nighttime show in the amphitheater is always fun. I’d take the other three options on the list before this but this is still worth seeing.

The Stage Shows

Festival of the Lion King (AK)

There are a few different Animal Kingdom stage shows to choose from including Feathered Friends in Flight and Finding Nemo: The Big, Blue… and Beyond. Our favorite in the park is Festival of the Lion King though. In fact, this is our favorite stage show in Disney World. The show features a variety of acts all set to songs from The Lion King.

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure (DHS)

This show debuted in 2025 and we were really impressed by the mechanics of it, especially the puppeteering. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure takes guests quickly through the movie plot. I also considered the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in this slot.

Impressions de France/American Adventure (Epcot)

Okay, I’ll cheat a little here. The next two entries don’t include any live performances but are shows that feature animatronics or short films. I’ll start with Impressions de France, my favorite Epcot attraction. This short film doesn’t play all that often but is spectacular and embodies the World Showcase spirit. Go see it! American Adventure is a technical marvel that includes many animatronics and talks about American history.

Country Bears/Tiki Room/PhilharMagic/Carousel of Progress/Monsters Inc Laugh Floor (MK)

I might have gone overboard here but Magic Kingdom, to its credit has a number of attractions that act as stage shows. I’d take all of these over Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire. My favorites of the bunch are the Country Bears, even if I don’t like the new version as much, and the Tiki Room. All of them offer an air-conditioned spot to sit and constant showtimes throughout the day.

Atmospheric Entertainment

Burudika (AK)

The Burudika band plays in Animal Kingdom’s Harambe, performing a festive set a few times each day. We love the band and really enjoy how much energy they bring to the space. While there are quite a few great bands throughout Disney World, specifically in Epcot, Burudika is the one I keep coming back for.

Mariarchi Cobre (Epcot)

We’ll stick on the band theme and move over to Epcot. Mariachi Cobre plays a few times throughout the day in the Mexico Pavilion, mixing in a few Coco tunes to go with more traditional mariachi fare. They’re always worth stopping for if you’re walking by. Shoutout to the Voices of Liberty who narrowly miss the cut.

Winged Encounters (AK)

Winged Encounters is a quick show in front of the Tree of Life where macaws swoop down over guests. If you’re afraid of birds, this might not be for you! Everyone else should watch this though, as it’s quite a sight.

Dapper Dans (MK)

We had to include the iconic Dapper Dans! This barbershop quartet performs throughout the day on Main Street. Whether singing Disney songs or classic turn of the century tunes, they’re always worth a listen.

Seasonal Entertainment

Candlelight Processional (Epcot)

Seasonal shows are sneaky good at Walt Disney World and Epcot’s Candlelight Processional leads the charge. This is probably our favorite show in the entire post (Happily Ever After makes a case), as the production value is extremely high and the musicians are fantastic. A celebrity narrator reads the Christmas story while backed by an orchestra and choir. If you’re at Epcot during the holidays, this is a must do!

Festival of the Arts Disney on Broadway (Epcot)

We’ll stick in Epcot’s America Gardens Theatre and move forward a month or two from the Festival of Holidays to Festivals of the Arts! This wonderful festival includes the Disney on Broadway concert series, where Broadway performers come to perform a concert full of Disney songs and other classic Broadway hits. The talent is phenomenal and worth checking out on multiple nights.

Merry Menagerie (AK)

This seasonal entertainment is more atmospheric but one of our favorite things to do at Disney World during the holidays. Merry Menagerie consists of animal puppets (of all sizes) walking around in Discovery Island. The puppeteers do a wonderful job and are so personable, while the puppets themselves are among the most adorable things you’ve ever seen.

World Showcase Holiday Storytellers (Epcot)

We’ll stick to the holidays and go back to Epcot for our last pick. Almost all of the World Showcase pavilions feature a storyteller during this festival that share their country’s customs in an entertaining way. Spending an afternoon or evening to go hear all of them is a great way to enjoy the holidays at Disney World.
