Plazma Ray’s Diner Review

Plazma Ray’s is a counter-service restaurant in Tokyo Disneyland. Sitting on the edge of Tomorrowland, the restaurant specializes in rice bowls and also offers the famous Little Green Dumplings. In this post, we’ll review Plazma Ray’s atmosphere, food and value!

The Disney Parks Universe (DPU?) runs deep. Imagineering has gone as far as making a fictional club (SEA) to connect attractions, restaurants and lands to each other, regardless of what park they’re in. That gets talked about quite a bit and rightfully so, it’s additional story that can augment the experience. SEA gets the headlines but is there a forming society of Tomorrowland restaurants with Ray in the title and an alien featured? I’m sure Imagineering knows that TRwR&A (Tomorrowland Restaurants with Ray & Alien) is a bad acronym but I still had to investigate.

For those unaware, Magic Kingdom has a restaurant named Cosmic Ray’s that features an alien animatronic named Sonny Eclipse who puts on the best concert you’ve ever seen. The Beatles and Beethoven would be jealous. Unfortunately, the food at Cosmic Ray’s is bad. Knowing Tokyo Disneyland’s love of cute things, I assumed that Plazma Ray’s could be connected and there might be an alien lurking somewhere. Sadly, the only alien I could find was in the signage for the restaurant. Or at the next door Pan Galactic Pizza Port, where Tony Solaroni does his thing.

The lack of alien animatronic here is disappointing but maybe this extra terrestrial prefers to work behind the scenes? For now, my investigation into TRwR&A is incomplete. I will judiciously carry on until details are revealed. Area 51’s got nothing on this.

If I didn’t lose you in those first few paragraphs, welcome to the normal part of this counter-service dining review. Plazma Ray’s is a very popular counter-service spot that is in the top corner of Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. It sits next to Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek and a few steps away from World Bazaar’s Center Street.

Plazma Ray's big dining room TDL (1 of 1)

The restaurant is large, fitting in roughly 850 seats. That’s needed at Tokyo Disneyland, with the masses filling up any dining location come meal time. Jokes and ridiculous intro aside, I assume the large capacity is part of the reason there’s no alien animatronic inside of the restaurant. They need all of the space they can get.

That comes with a downside – Plazma Ray’s is crowded! There will be a wait to get a seat indoors if you’re here for lunch or dinner. That’s with several dining rooms, tiered on both sides of the ordering bay.

With so many people, the theme can be hard to discern. Plazma Ray’s has a classic Tomorrowland retro feel to it, featuring reds, oranges and blues throughout. The off white walls and booths make those colors really comes to life. Colorful chairs extend to outdoor dining, which might be the most scenic spot to eat and our top choice here if the weather cooperates.

There are a few flourishes throughout, including the aforementioned signage with a classy pink alien wearing, what appears to be, reading glasses. I’d love to know more about that guy. Is his name Plazma Ray? If so, how’d he come to running this restaurant? Has his eyesight worsened over time? The mysteries of Plazma (if that’s his name) are many.

Plazma Ray's entrance TDL (1 of 1)

There’s also a very Tomorrowland-esque flair to one of the restaurant’s entrances. I like these touches to Plazma Ray’s, it gives a little personality to an otherwise fairly bland counter-service spot. Like I mentioned, this restaurant is serving a purpose of offering a ton of seats. The theme suffers because of that. Getting your food here and then eating at Pan Galactic Pizza Port is a good way to go if you’re looking for a better atmosphere. I’m hopeful that the Tomorrowland makeover will add another counter-service restaurant to Tokyo Disneyland. The park could use it!

Quick tip: Using the mobile order at Plazma Ray’s is very beneficial. In fact, mobile order is very underutilized throughout Tokyo Disney Resort and using it here (and elsewhere) will save loads of time.

Moving to the food, Plazma Ray’s has a small menu like most places throughout Japan. The main items center around rice bowls with different toppings.

Plazma Ray's curry egg TDL (1 of 1)

This bowl features beef with demi-glace sauce, egg, fried prawns and rice. We both liked the beef in the sauce, having it mixed in with the rice led to a flavorful and filling dish. The taste was reminiscent of the Japanese curry served at Hungry Bear Restaurant, although slightly less thin and rich. The prawns in this were good but forgettable. Overall, we liked this option especially considering the 1,200 yen price tag (a little under $8 USD as of March 2026). This is definitely a satisfying meal with a large portion size.

Plazma Ray's cheese chicken bowl TDL (1 of 1)

The Chicken Curry Soup was another winner, including a chicken thigh, veggies, cheese and rice in a light curry broth. The chicken thigh was very juicy and flavorful, soaking up the curry. I shouldn’t be surprised because cheese is always good, but it really worked for me inside of this dish adding a sharpness to the warm, comforting broth. At the same price as the beef, I’d probably choose this option on a cooler day and the beef on a warmer one. They were both delicious and good comfort food.

Plazma Ray's alien mochi TDL (1 of 1)

We’ve also tried the Little Green Dumplings. Who am I kidding, I’ve ‘tried them’ at least once every trip to Tokyo Disney Resort. These are one of my favorite sweets at the parks. Each of these mochi are filled with a different flavor – chocolate, (vanilla) custard, and strawberry. I love the chocolate and custard options, while the strawberry is just okay in my opinion. It’s just a bonus for me that these are adorable. The Little Green Dumplings are available in other spots throughout the park too!

All in all, we came away fairly impressed by the food. There’s nothing overly unique here but it’s another dependable option to add to our counter-service usuals at Tokyo Disneyland. Plazma Ray’s atmosphere is a little less favorable, as the seating is crowded and there’s not much personality outside of some fun signage. We still like the restaurant though and consider it to be a decent quick option at TDL, a step below Hungry Bear and China Voyager but a step above most other counter-service spots.

Overall Rating – 8/10
