Pan Galactic Pizza Port Review

Pan Galactic Pizza Port is a counter-service restaurant in Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. The dining location focuses on pizza, calzones and the ever Instagram-able Green Alien Mochi. Pan Galactic Pizza Port is also the workplace of the amazing alien, Tony Solaroni. In this post, we’ll review the restaurant’s atmosphere, cuisine, value and, of course, dive into Tony Solaroni’s backstory.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure despite overwhelming obstacles.” I didn’t make that up, Superman did. Clark Kent hasn’t come out and said that this lovely quote is about Pan Galactic Pizza Port’s manager, Tony Solaroni. But he hasn’t denied it either.

Any review should start with the most interesting aspect of whatever it’s reviewing and, for better or worse, the character in this counter-service restaurant is easily the headliner for Pan Galactic Pizza Port. Here’s a link to the character Wiki page, one of the funniest pages on the internet. In short, Tony Solaroni, aka The Big Cheese, came from the Spumoni Galaxy where he worked for the Pan Galactic Pizza Corporation.

He worked his way up the ladder to become a manager of multiple restaurants across the galaxy. Unfortunately, those orders from his greedy boss made him live lightyears away from his wife. Eventually, a franchise opened on Earth and our alien was sent to run the shop, operating the PZ-5000 which is a giant pizza making machine inside of the restaurant. That’s where we find Tony. Intermittently, we see the alien taking orders from his boss, getting calls from his wife or trying to solve issues with the PZ-5000.

How Disney theme parks keep pulling aliens to work at Tomorrowland restaurants is beyond me. Sonny Eclipse in Disney World is Cosmic Ray’s only saving grace. That animatronic performs a nice set of music as guests try to plow through whatever hot dog or hamburger they ordered. Solaroni’s show is wilder because it’s not supposed to be a show at all. It’s his livelihood and he needs to make the restaurant work in order to return home one day and complete his hero’s journey. Guests sitting inside for a meal at Pan Galactic Pizza Port will notice the videos playing and Tony reacting. It’s weird but a lot of fun, adding so much character to a restaurant that could have been lifeless.

Pan Galactic Pizza Port seating TDL

There are a few different seating areas once guests have gotten their food from the ordering bay. The upstairs seating gives the best view of Tony so that’s what I recommend. One issue with that is the area isn’t high capacity but there are enough tables and chairs that, if you wait for a minute, you should find something. The above photo shows half of the seating area upstairs, with the other half behind the camera, mirroring what’s pictured.

Pan Galactic Pizza Port outdoor seating TDL

Right outside the doors is ample outdoor seating. The views aren’t bad and the chairs look fine but why sit here when you could go watch an alien sentenced to making pizza on Earth? That’d be like going to the movie theater, ordering popcorn, exiting and eating the popcorn while sitting on the curb. Don’t eat popcorn on the curb!

Just so we’re clear, Pan Galactic Pizza Port serves pizza and not popcorn. Here’s a look at the menu, that you may have to use Google Translate on. The menu items are between 600-800 yen with the sets (which include a drink) are between 800-1,000. It’s quite affordable!

This is the Sausage Pizza for 740 yen. As far as counter-service theme park pizzas go, this one’s not bad. There’s a good amount of food here so it will likely fill guests up. I thought the tomato and sausage on top were delicious and the cheese was pretty good. I didn’t think the tomato sauce was very good and the crust was average. I like other items much better at Tokyo Disneyland but this does cost $5 as of late February 2024’s exchange rate. That’s an absurdly great price for a serviceable personal pizza.

Pan Galactic Pizza Port calzone TDL

Excuse this awful picture of the Chicken and Tomato Calzone. While I didn’t love the sauce on the pizza, I thought it worked better here and the chicken tasted good! It was baked well and was better than 90% of theme park counter-service pizza adjacent items I’ve had. Not only that but the calzone was 640 yen which amounts to $4.25. It’d be a good snack to share or a decent dinner, although you can find much better food at Tokyo Disneyland. Don’t get me wrong, Pan Galactic Pizza Port’s main offerings are still just quick theme park pizza but it is slightly better than most of those places. The Seafood Pizza across the park at Captain Hook’s Galley is better than either item though.

Pan Galactic Pizza Port Green Alien Mochi TDL

For dessert, we ordered the Green Alien Mochi. The value here is again off the charts at 400 yen or around $2.70. This comes with the adorable 3 mochis you see above, each one filled with a different custard. There’s vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. My favorite is the vanilla but I do like them all. It’s not often that the cutest food lives up to the hype but that’s definitely the case here.

I think Pan Galactic Pizza Port offers fine food but with the weirdest possible entertainment. To me, that’s a big selling point and I’d be happy to stop in here for a snack in the afternoon hours just to watch Tony Solaroni cook (pun intended). The restaurant is a small step above the counter-service pizza places we have stateside but devoting a meal there when much better options are throughout the park is a tough sell. A fun and strange atmosphere, great value and average food make Pan Galactic Pizza Port a mixed bag for me. No disrespect, Tony.
