The NFL season wrapped up yesterday with the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl. Where are two of there star players going now? You guessed it, Disneyland! Sam Darnold and Kenneth Walker, the latter being the game’s MVP and the former being the starting quarterback, were in the iconic Disney commercial that aired after the game. In this post, we’ll share the commercial as well as a little bit of information on the day at Disneyland.
Look, I don’t usually cover the Super Bowl winner. I probably wouldn’t this year but being from Seattle and growing up a Seahawks fan is playing a role. Would I have wrote this quick post if New England had won? I try to be a fair blogger but, well, the answer is no.
As some of you already know, Melissa and I are in New Zealand. We’ve been in the South Island for about 4 days now and are having an amazing time. Luckily, today was a pretty relaxed day and I took the afternoon to watch the Super Bowl in a sports bar in Wanaka. There were a few other people there but it’s not nearly as big of a deal as it is in the states. I had a great time though and seeing one of my teams win a championship was special. The Seattle Mariners don’t win championships and the Washington Huskies, I’m admittedly a much bigger college football fan than NFL, have a far more difficult path. Long story short, it was a special day.
I’d have loved to be at Disneyland today to see the Seahawks celebration. But I’d rather be in New Zealand. Real first world problems there. For any Seahawks fans in the park today, please cheer for me!
Here’s a brief summary of the classic “I’m going to Disneyland” commercial as well as some of the things that you can expect in the park today. Go Hawks!
It was a memorable scene in Santa Clara, California, tonight as confetti rained down on the Seahawks stars and their teammates after they defeated the New England Patriots in the title game. Moments after the final whistle, Walker and Darnold made the “I’m going to Disneyland!” proclamation in front of thousands of jubilant Seahawks fans. Disney camera crews captured the excitement for our cherished Super Bowl commercial, now airing across social media and TV in English and Spanish.
Now the excitement shifts to Disneyland Resort in Southern California. Guests can look forward to an incredible day tomorrow, Monday, February 9, as Kenneth Walker III and Sam Darnold take center stage, enjoying attractions and unforgettable moments with beloved Disney characters.
The festivities will culminate in a celebratory cavalcade down Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park, during which thousands of cheering fans can catch a glimpse of the champion players.
Walker and Darnold’s sports-fairytale-come-true continues a tradition that started with New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms in 1987. Simms was the first to deliver the iconic phrase, “I’m going to Disneyland,” blazing a path for many of football’s greatest players to follow. This is also a “homecoming” moment for Darnold who grew up in San Clemente about 35 miles from Disneyland and played college football at the University of Southern California.
Along with the cavalcade, ESPN will have several shows broadcasting in the park throughout the day. Here’s the announcement:
With a set in Town Square at the foot of Main Street, U.S.A., within Disneyland Park, First Take with Stephen A. Smith, multiple editions of SportsCenter, NFL Live and a second episode of Super Bowl Live will originate from within the park. ESPN will also welcome and honor a player from the Super Bowl LX championship team.
As of writing this, we don’t know what time the cavalcade will be. I’d expect it in the late morning or early afternoon. Keep an eye on social media or hope that the Disneyland app updates if you’re trying to find the time. Again, go Hawks!
