Café L’air De La Sirène is a counter-service restaurant in Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe. Located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, the restaurant serves French food set in a Parisian cafe. Café L’air De La Sirène is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but this review will only cover the latter 2. Along with the food, this post will also review the restaurant’s atmosphere and value.
The setting in Wizarding World of Harry Potter- Ministry of Magic uses one of my favorite theme park ideas – take a real place and then idealize and romanticize it. Not that Paris needs any romanticizing, the city is wonderful and one of my favorite places in the world. But just like Disneyland’s New Orleans Square or the best pockets of Epcot’s World Showcase, there’s a bit of whimsy and idealization wrapped up in that real place’s feeling.
You could argue that this is a problem with theme parks. People settle for the idealized instead of actually absorbing a place’s culture. If that’s happening then, sure, I don’t that’s the best way to travel. But a few minutes inside of Epic Universe’s Ministry of Magic makes me want to book a flight to Paris. This really comes to life at Café L’air De La Sirène.
My Chefs de France review is a dead giveaway, I really like French food and love the atmosphere of bustling Parisian cafes. Café L’air De La Sirène might be a little less bustling than the Epcot restaurant, or real life Paris for that matter, but it’s no less charming. Like most of the land it’s in, the restaurant is also grand.
There are two main dining areas in Café L’air De La Sirène. Above is the larger area, featuring very high ceilings, a tiled floor and beautiful wooden walls and pillars. We were there around Christmas so the garlands are hanging overhead. The restaurant looks regal while still fitting in with the French cafe setting.
Café L’air De La Sirène translates to The Siren’s Song Cafe in English. There are several mosaics and paintings that fit into that name, as well as other whimsical paintings of people. Are they muggles or wizards? We didn’t recognize any familiar faces but maybe someone well versed in the matter could say. Either way, the decor felt appropriate both for Paris and for Harry Potter Universe (HPU, as the cool kids say).
The other dining room in Café L’air De La Sirène looks largely the same. We thought this area was a little quieter. There are less wood tones on this side of the restaurant, with the pillars matching the off white ceiling. The beautiful patterns and designs throughout give the restaurant more detail. To be fair to the space, the atmosphere doesn’t even need any detailing. It looks good enough already. This whole place is so stunning.
If you’d rather have a view of the whole land, there is some outdoor seating. This isn’t a bad option since the land is so beautiful and this patio dining is a dead ringer for cafes in Paris. The drawback here is the Florida weather might not cooperate with sitting outside.
Like Das Stakehaus and other Universal Orlando restaurants, guests can mobile order and then put their table number into the order. The food will then be delivered right to the table without having to go up to the ordering bay at all. We recommend utilizing this.
Café L’air De La Sirène has a phenomenal atmosphere. There’s only so many theme park restaurants that stop you dead in your tracks when walking in. This is one of them and does so while being a counter-service restaurant, which is even more rare. Epic Universe is full of great, immersive atmospheres and this restaurant is one of the best.
Here is a link to Café L’air De La Sirène’s menu. There’s a strong assortment of French food with baguette sandwiches, cassoulets, Boeuf Bourguignon and more. Most everything is in the $15-$20 range. As I mentioned, the restaurant also does breakfast and that looks delicious. We’ll save that for another time!
This is the Baguette de Dinde which includes sliced cracked black pepper turkey, apples, brie, arugula and is topped with mustard butter and apple butter served in a warm crusty baguette. Melissa and I both loved this, as the bread tasted fresh with the two different butters spread on it. The turkey wasn’t anything extraordinary but it was a nice meat to pair with the delicious apples and brie. I’d get this again, especially on a hot day when something springy and fresh sounded good.
The sandwich comes with a salad or fries. We went the salad route and were pleased with the choice, as this was more elaborate than the usual counter-service salad that comes in a plastic container. The greens were mixed and tasted very fresh. As you can see, there’s a healthy portion of tomatoes and onions on top. The dressing was a tangy vinaigrette that added a little zip to the salad.
For a heartier entree, we ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon. This consists of braised beef slow-cooked in a Burgundy wine, with mushrooms, pearl onions, roasted carrots, and bacon lardons served with pommes purée. This is well beyond counter-service theme park quality. It was rich, with incredibly tender beef, and full of flavor. The potato purée was very creamy and paired wonderfully with the hint of wine in the sauce. It was also a treat anytime a mushroom snuck onto the plate. This is one of the better counter-service entrees I’ve had. The only negative is that you might not want it on a hot day because it’s so rich and a warm comfort food. I think it’s worth the risk though!
What’s a French meal without Crème Brûlée? The vanilla bean custard under the caramelized sugar was excellent, as were the few berries to pair it with. This isn’t the best Crème Brûlée I’ve ever tried but it was delicious and a very strong attempt from a counter-service restaurant. It’s well worth ordering, although the other desserts (crepes) look great too!
Café L’air De La Sirène is among the best counter-service restaurants I’ve ever dined in. I don’t know that it reaches the top, surpassing the likes of DisneySea’s Vulcania, but it’s in the conversation. It will be interesting to see if the quality of the food is kept up over the years. What will definitely remain is the beautiful atmosphere. If the food stays as good as it currently is then this is a can’t miss spot!
Overall Rating – 10/10
