Sebastian’s Bistro is a table-service restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Caribbean Beach Resort. A family-style restaurant, Sebastian’s Bistro serves Latin and Caribbean inspired food. This resort restaurant is moderately priced and does take part in the Disney Dining Plan (when applicable) as 1 credit. DVC, Annual Pass and Disney Visa discounts are also available. In this post, we’ll review the restaurant’s atmosphere, food and value.
Caribbean Beach Resort has gone through many changes over the last decade, making steady improvements to compliment the addition of the Disney Skyliner. Chief among them has been a complete makeover at the center of the resort which features Sebastian’s Bistro. Caribbean Beach never struggled from the aesthetic standpoint with beautiful water all around the grounds. That remains true and has become even more beautiful with the recent makeover.
A slew of resort restaurants have opened up in the last few years and most of them have been successesful. This is conjecture on my part but I get the feeling that the chefs at these restaurants have a little more freedom to do what they want to with the menu. Both Sebastian’s Bistro and Topolino’s Terrace opened around the same time (2018 and 2019) and they remain two of the better restaurants in Walt Disney World.
While Topolino’s is an excellent fine dining experience, Sebastian’s also fills a void in the Disney World restaurant scene in that it offers unique and interesting food at a decent price! Decent price is relative, of course. After Walt Disney World reopened, Sebastian’s returned as a family style restaurant and has stayed that way since.
Before we get to the cuisine, let’s take a look at the theme, atmosphere and décor. As I mentioned, the walk up to the restaurant is a pretty one. The building is surrounded by water and bridges. There’s an outdoor bar right next to Sebastian’s that makes the area feel festive.
Once inside, the space is open and bright. Large windows offer a nice view of the water and white walls keep the place bright even after sunset. While many restaurants have packed tables in at Disney World, Sebastian’s feels a little more spacious. Perhaps that’s due to a lack of popularity, but ;m not complaining! That’s probably most people’s preference I imagine, cramping is not an enjoyable experience.
With the name of the restaurant paying homage to Disney’s most famous crustacean, it would stand to reason that Sebastian’s went heavy on a Little Mermaid theme. That’s not the case at all though. Instead the inside went far more subtle and with less of an enveloping story. You can certainly find some ‘Under the Sea’ and Disney motifs throughout the restaurant, including Mickey Mouse on a few vases and beautiful chandeliers. The paintings and chairs add a nice splash of color to the restaurant.
As a whole, I like the atmosphere but I don’t think it will win anyone over on its own. The design is modern and well done though. It’s an inviting place to have a meal.
Moving on to the food, here’s a look at the menu. The family style portions are large and guests can ask for more of a particular item if so inclined. As you can see in the menu, the meal costs $39 per person before any discount is tacked on. That’s gone up by $10 since I originally wrote this review in 2021. Obviously, that’s a big jump but Sebastian’s still holds strong value by being the cheapest of any all-you-can-eat places in WDW. Think of it like a budget Ohana but with better food!
We start with the Buttery House-baked Pull-apart Rolls. These are served with with Guava Butter and Caramelized Onion Jam and are absolutely delicious. I preferred the Onion Jam to the Butter but you can’t go wrong with either. They aren’t lying with the name of the rolls, they’re certainly buttery and doughy. You’ll probably want more than one of these.
Next comes The Spice Necklace Salad. This consists of Mixed Greens and Kale with Toasted Pumpkin Seeds, Grilled Pineapple, Orange, Spiced Candied Walnuts, and Radish with Key Lime Dressing. Strange name aside, this was another winner. I think there might be one ingredient too many as some of the flavors were a little redundant. Nonetheless, this was delicious and I especially liked the Key Lime Dressing. Eating greens at Disney World is a rarity but this was well worth taking a break from the constant heavy foods.
From there, the restaurant serves the main dish called Taste of the Caribbean. This platter comes with a variety of things and will break them down one by one.
We’ll start with the sides which include Cilantro Rice and Beans, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables, and Candied Plantains. The Cilantro Rice and Beans had excellent flavor. I don’t like Cilantro very much but it wasn’t very evident in the rice, more enhancing the flavor than hurting it. The roasted vegetables were more forgettable but, again, I wasn’t complaining about some veggies at the table. The Candied Plantains were the winner of the dish, staying away from getting mushy and with a sweet caramelization on top.
Moving on to the meats, Sebastian’s Bistro has gone from serving 3 meats to 4 in the last few years. These include Oven-roasted Chicken with Tamarind Barbecue, Slow-cooked Mojo Pork with Mango Sambal, Chili-rubbed Beef with Roasted Red Pepper Chimichurri, and Baked Fish with Citrus Butter. These all come with sauces on the side and it was fun to mix and match them.
Above is the Baked Fish. I liked the seasoning on this and enjoyed pairing it with the mangoes. There is much better fish throughout Walt Disney World but adding this to the dish gave some nice balance. The Baked Fish was cooked well, being very tender and juicy.
The Slow Cooked Mojo Pork was good on it’s own but mixing it with the Mango Sambal took it to another level. It was juicy and tender, pairing perfectly with the citrus of the Sambal. I generally prefer other meats over pork but this was one of my favorites on the platter.
Here is the Oven-roasted Chicken with Tamarind Barbecue and the Chili-rubbed Beef. The Beef was the winner because, as Ron Swanson would say, chicken can never beat cow. It came out as a nice medium rare and paired well with several of the sauces. The Chicken was no slouch either, as I especially liked the Tamarind Barbecue.
All in all, the meats were delicious. None of the options are going to be the highest quality that you’ll find throughout Walt Disney World but they’re each prepared thoughtfully and have good flavor. Not to mention, there’s a lot of variety!
The meal was topped off with that beauty. As if I need to say more. This is called (using Disney’s titles) Our Celebrated House-made Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding. What a ridiculous title but, you know what? I’m here for it. This dessert is worthy of celebration and Sebastian’s Bistro is making sure you know that. This is served with Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream. It’s deliciously gooey. While Ohana’s Bread Pudding might be slightly better, this definitely belongs in the conversation.
This is clearly a ton of food for $39. After the discount is applied, this is one of the cheapest table-service restaurants at Walt Disney World while offering some unique and fantastic flavors. The value is great here and we recommend it if you’re paying out of pocket.
Overall, Sebastian’s Bistro is sneakily one of the best restaurants in Walt Disney World. There’s a creative menu to match a more relaxed atmosphere and a great value to top it off. The whole experience is pleasant and well worth checking out. We’ll be returning to Sebastian’s Bistro over the years and would recommend others do the same!
