Satu’li Canteen Breakfast Review

Satu’li Canteen is a counter-service restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Residing in Pandora – World of Avatar, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Satu’li Canteen does take part in the Disney Dining Plan as a counter-service credit. After covering lunch and dinner at the restaurant, we’ve recently turned our attention to breakfast which is generally served from 8-10 AM (dependent on park hours). In this post, we’ll review breakfast at Satu’li Canteen including thoughts on the restaurant’s atmosphere, food and value.

We’ve long sang the praises of Satu’li Canteen! Ever since the restaurant opened with Pandora in 2017, it has been among the best counter-service restaurants in all of Walt Disney World. Breakfast has come and gone (and then come back again) from the menu but we’d somehow missed it over the years, despite doing many rope drops at Animal Kingdom.

Part of the reason we’ve missed it is that we aren’t generally fans of counter-service breakfasts. That has changed recently, as Disney has started to add items to menus that aren’t just greasy bacon and rubber eggs. Menus have been overhauled in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World and the breakfast scene is much better for it!

With a pared down, to put it kindly, attraction roster, Animal Kingdom lends itself to a leisurely morning after a rope drop. We’d recommend Flight of Passage to start the morning followed by Kilimanjaro Safaris and Everest before doubling back for breakfast at Satu’li Canteen. If you’re trying to conserve steps then getting breakfast after Flight of Passage isn’t a bad move, especially on a less busy day. But getting all of those rides done in an hour is a thrill and then a meal here is a great reward!

Satu’li Canteen’s atmosphere is largely the same during breakfast as it is during the day, just less crowded. That’s always a plus! The photo above shows how empty the restaurant is about half an hour after opening. I think there were less than 10 groups in the whole place. Mobile ordering is easy while standing in line for an attraction but probably isn’t necessary for breakfast here, I doubt the standby ordering will take much time at all.

The details are more noticeable with less people in there and it’s fun to see the different lamps and wood weaving above the booths. These are obviously there no matter the time but I get so caught up in hunting for an open table at lunch that it’s easier to miss some of the detailing. That might be more of a me problem but I think it’s relatable. Maybe the Na’vi need to teach us all to slow down and enjoy their craftsmanship. We definitely preferred sitting in here for breakfast over lunch and dinner. Satu’li Canteen has a strong counter-service atmosphere regardless of the time of day.

Moving to the food, here’s a look at the menu. Like most counter-service restaurants, there’s not many options. Most of the entrees come in a mixed bowl form, like you see at lunch or dinner in the restaurant. Entrees fall between $12-$15.

I started with the Specialty Ube Cold Brew which consisted of Joffrey’s Coffee™ Cold Brew with Ube, Oat Milk, Pure Cane Syrup, and Butterfly Pea Flower. I don’t love Joffrey’s Coffee (I view it more as a necessary evil when visiting WDW) but the extras helped this particular drink. The Oat Milk and Cane Syrup sweetened up the Cold Brew and the Ube cold foam was tasty. Not to be overly simplistic but if you like Ube then you’ll probably like this. The drink is $5.79, which is decent relative to other specialty drinks. Next time I’ll try the Matcha Cold Brew!

Satuli Canteen chorizo potatoes breakfast AK (1 of 1)

For one of our entrees we ordered the Slow-roasted Pork Shoulder Potato Hash with Chorizo Sausage and Charred Onion Sauce. This is among my favorite counter-service breakfast meals I’ve ever had. The Chorizo was the star, leaving me wanting another piece! Melissa and I both really enjoyed the Onion Sauce, which was a little creamy and added just enough zip. If there’s a critique, it’s that this is perhaps a little one note after a while. But we thought it was great to share and worth the $13.29 price tag.

The heavier potato hash paired perfectly with the brighter and lighter Tropical Pandoran Forest Fruits. The Kiwi, Pineapple, Strawberries and other fruit is mixed in with Fresh Yogurt, Muesli, and Agave. This was maybe a touch sweeter than it needed to be but was delicious and fresh. The Muesli added some texture and the yogurt added a little more substance. For $11.99, we really liked the entree and would get it again.

Satuli Canteen french toast breakfast AK (1 of 1)

With only so much room in our stomachs, we opted for the kids portion of the Cinnamon French Toast. This is served with with Blueberry Cream Cheese, Passion Fruit Anglaise, and Sausage. The French Toast was delicious, the perfect amount of doughy and eggy. I preferred the Passion Fruit Anglaise sauce with it while Melissa liked the Blueberry Cream Cheese more. They were both tasty though. I was happy we didn’t order a full entree of this as it would have been too filling for me but it’s a good, sweet breakfast option! The full entree is $12.99 while the kids option is $7.99. We recommend ordering a couple of things to share here if you’re in a group. There’s a nice assortment in the limited options.

I don’t say this about many counter-service spots, but we’ll be back for Satu’li Canteen’s breakfast. The restaurant competes with Primo Piatto (at the Riviera) for our favorite quick breakfast in Walt Disney World. In terms of value, the prices here are on par with most of what you’d find at the resort. This might be on the higher end for a counter-service breakfast but the quality matched that. Satu’li Canteen is not only worth a stop in your Animal Kingdom morning, it will be one of the highlights!

Overall Rating – 9.5/10
