Eastside Cafe Review

Eastside Cafe is a table-service restaurant in Tokyo Disneyland. The restaurant is located in World Bazaar, the park’s version of Main Street. Eastside Cafe largely offers Italian focused dishes, along with a few non-pasta options, in a relaxed, Victorian themed setting. In this post, we’ll review the restaurant’s cuisine, atmosphere and value.

Thinking of Eastside Cafe’s name, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the restaurant to serve Asian food. I’ve confused what this World Bazaar restaurant served because Asian countries are often referred to as the far east. Does the atmosphere or cuisine at this particular restaurant have anything to do with that reference at all? Nope! Instead it’s as simple as the table-service restaurant being on the eastside of Center Street, the perpendicular line to Main Street. Was this intro paragraph just to show that I’m a little bit dumb? Maybe. But it could represent a few other things beside my overconcentrated stupidity!

The first point would be a bit of a parable for how Americans might overthink things on trips like this. But the second point, one that might be more applicable to this review, is just how seriously Tokyo Disney Resort wants to engulf you in story. The simplicity of the restaurant names on this crossing street are similar to what you’d find in the real world. Center Street Coffeehouse is on one side, a very appropriate name for a restaurant (there may be nits to pick on the coffeehouse portion) on Center Street. Eastside Cafe is fitting of a restaurant that’s on the east side of that land and street. You get it! But I did want to point out the very literal names that further the storytelling in World Bazaar.

Once inside Eastside Cafe, which again is easy to find because it’s on the east part of the land (just in case you were like me and didn’t get it), guests are met by a mix of Victorian and American design. There’s a hint of Italy in the decor too but more in an American restaurant admiring Italy sort of way. The Tokyo Disney website concurs, describing the setting as an “elegant restaurant in early 20th-century America. Enjoy a leisurely meal in a refined atmosphere where the Victorian setting accents the menu.”

Eastside Cafe windows TDL

One side of the restaurant has large windows facing Center Street. Those are pretty, allowing for natural light and offering a great spot for people watching. The chandeliers fit the Victorian style really well as does the different wallpaper throughout the restaurant.

Along with those touches, there’s a little bit of an American diner feel to the place. That works well enough but does look dated in parts. Whether that’s by design or not, I’m not sure. Eastside Cafe is certainly clean, like everything else at Tokyo Disney Resort, but the carpeting and wallpaper does fit into the early 20th century. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that this is deliberate and maybe just not my favorite styling.

That’s not to say the atmosphere is bad at the restaurant. On the contrary, as this is one of the most relaxed spots we’ve dined in at Tokyo Disneyland. While a few of the tables were close to each other, the booths have a good amount of room to spread out. Compared to most other spots in the resort, this is not nearly as cramped and much quieter. The walls have different maps and photos of Italy throughout which may add to the confusion of the atmosphere. But they’ve really committed to the Italian restaurant in America bit and done it in a much nicer way than Olive Garden. As far as table-service restaurant atmospheres in Tokyo Disneyland, I’d put Eastside Cafe near the top.

Moving on to the food, here’s a look at the menu! That menu does change out fairly often and is built around different sets. In case you’re unfamiliar, sets are essentially meals that come with an appetizer and drink. That was our case while visiting in the summer and looks to be the same with the current Halloween menu. Although I said the menu changes often, it does seem to offer the same entrees typically while the appetizers tend to change.

Eastside Cafe appetizer TDL

For what it’s worth, our appetizer was delicious, light and themed to Donald Duck, naturally. There was a chilled prawn on rice, potato salad and some cheese, as well as a few other items. It’s a bit of a weird mix but not that abnormal from what we’ve seen in other Tokyo Disney Resort appetizers. This particular appetizer won’t make or break the meal but it’s a nice little addition.

Eastside Cafe steak TDL

I ordered the grilled beef for my entree, which was a sirloin steak. It was a very large portion, more than enough food! The beef quality was fine but nothing special. It was cooked well and I liked the sauce, a balsamic, on top. That said, it wasn’t anything overly special. The price currently is 3,800 yen (roughly $27 as of September 2024) for this set and that’s a steal for all of the food you get. That said, I wouldn’t rush to get this one again. It’s good but not great, slightly forgettable overall.

Eastside Cafe clam pasta TDL

Melissa ordered this seafood spaghetti with clams in a cream sauce. While the details change, there is typically a seafood pasta of some kind on the menu. Of the two dishes we ordered, I think we both liked this one the most. As usual, the seafood was very fresh and delicious. The pasta was also delicious with a light sauce. Any seafood dish at Tokyo Disneyland is a pretty safe bet and that includes the pasta here! We didn’t order this one in a set and it was just over 2,000 yen (around $15). That’s a steal for a table-service pasta that was as good as this was!

Eastside Cafe put out a good meal in a more relaxed setting than anywhere else you’ll likely find in Tokyo Disneyland. The value was also really strong. But with those positives, I wouldn’t say that the restaurant is a must-do. It’s a nice meal to have if you want to slow down a little bit and are in the area. Eastside Cafe is the type of place that makes Tokyo Disneyland’s dining scene deeper but doesn’t top it.

Overall Rating – 8/10
