Five Changes I’d Like to See at Walt Disney World

The 2024 D23 Expo is just a week away and we’ll have plenty of coverage of the event and some predictions leading up to it! Not all of the announcements and changes have to be big though. In fact, both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort have infrastructure in place to improve the parks without having to build anything at all. I’ve already proposed some changes I’d like to see happen in California and now am moving on to Florida, listing five changes that Walt Disney World could feasibly do in a short time.

Like the previous post, not all of these changes are necessarily small. Some of them would take some major investment! Instead the idea was to avoid building anything new and add changes to the park that could feasibly be put into place over the next year. D23 Expo should provide some massive announcements but many of those projects won’t be ready for at least 3 years. These changes could fill in the gaps that the pandemic has left in the theme park debut schedule! Plus, WDW may want a few new items next year to compete with Universal’s Epic Universe.

The majority of these five come down to personal preference too. While I believe that making these changes over the next year would make Disney World better, I don’t think every person would agree. I do expect some quick changes to be announced at D23 but I wouldn’t call the following list predictions either. Instead, this is just my wish list of what could reasonably happen by summer 2025 at latest. I’ve included a change for each park plus one resort wide. Enough expectation setting, let’s get to it…

Be Our Guest Brings Back Counter-Service Offerings

Once upon a time, before COVID and Genie+/Lightning Lane/Multi Passes/whatever it will be called next, Magic Kingdom’s most popular restaurant doubled as a counter-service restaurant. In fact, it was the park’s best quick option by a mile. Be Our Guest had a counter-service system in place for breakfast and lunch before switching to table-service for dinner. Ever since reopening from the pandemic, Be Our Guest has only operated with a prix-fixe table-service menu for lunch and dinner.

With Magic Kingdom’s counter-service options lacking, we’d love to see a return to Be Our Guest’s old system. We know the infrastructure is in place to do so! The downside for Disney is obvious – they probably wouldn’t make as much money. But switching back would make the park much stronger and add some versatility to the dining scene.

Impressions de France Shows All-Day

Beauty and the Beast has some great songs! Some of my favorite of any Disney animated movie, actually. But I don’t need an Epcot theater to show me them and have us to try to sing along. Instead restore that theater in the France Pavilion to its full glory by offering Impressions de France for the entire day. It’s a better fit, a significantly better film and in the spirit of World Showcase. There’s some history to the movie at this point, being the longest running movie in a theater ever. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed over the loss of the sing-along, so let’s fully celebrate the beautiful Impressions de France!

Replace a Stage Show in Hollywood Studios

Truly, I’m not trying to pick on Beauty and the Beast here! This was not intentional at all, but I do recognize that my first three changes have to do with the movie. Here’s what I do think – Beauty and the Beast deserves a fantastic ride like it has in Tokyo Disneyland. It deserves more than a half-baked movie in Epcot and a multiple decades old stage show in Hollywood Studios. Replacing them with something fresh would be advantageous for Disney World.

But I don’t want to sound like a full on hater. There are other shows at Hollywood Studios that could be replaced too! Add in something fresh and well thought out in any number of theaters. Think about how much better that park could be with a mini Broadway style show of Tangled, Moana or Encanto! They could even use the giant Fantasmic theater for something more innovative. In other words, just add more daytime entertainment to the park.

Burudika Returns to Animal Kingdom

Five years have passed since the best entertainment at Walt Disney World was pulled from Animal Kingdom. Burudika (also known as Wassalou) performed in Harambe and added some beautiful life to the area. They were energetic, heartfelt and positive. Since their Disney World run ended, that area has never felt the same. So my change for Animal Kingdom is simple… Bring them back! I’ll be honest, I don’t know how feasible this is or if the band would even be interested. But I do know that Animal Kingdom could use a shot in the arm and this lively band would fit the bill.

Disney Springs Continues Drone Show

This summer, Disney Springs debuted a drone show called Disney Dreams That Soar. The show has been really well received and a nice treat for guests of the entertainment district. Unfortunately, that show is scheduled to end on September 2nd. My change is simple! Keep the show going. Heck, they could change it for the different seasons. But having surprise and free entertainment options will make the guest experience better. Both Disney Resorts stateside could use a boost in guest experience and this would be an easy win!

  1. I think a Beauty and the Beast ride similar to the one in Tokyo Disneyland, would up Magic Kingdom’s game greatly! And I agree about the Beauty and the Beast show in Hollywood Studios, it needs to be changed pronto!

    • I wonder how much they regret not having New Fantasyland just be a Beauty and the Beast mini land in Magic Kingdom. Mine Train could have stayed and then they keep Be Our Guest but put in the Beauty and the Beast dark ride in where Little Mermaid is. Would have been great!

      • A Beauty and the Beast land would’ve made sense since they already had Gaston’s Tavern with the fountain and all that. I wouldn’t get rid of The Little Mermaid ride, but I would move it somewhere else to make room for the Beauty and the Beast dark ride.
