Details on Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Reservation System

As the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge draws closer and closer at Disneyland Resort, more details have been released about the reservation system guests will need to utilize to visit the land. The reservation system will be in place for guests visiting from May 31st through June 23rd. In this post we’ll break down those details and offer advice for those that want to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in that time frame.

For those visiting in the reservation time frame, the reservation system will open on May 2nd at 10 AM (pacific time) on Disneyland.com. In an unfortunate turn, Disney will no give specific instructions on how to get those reservations until 8 AM of that day. I don’t anticipate the instructions to be extremely difficult or complex, although the website my have some difficulty with all of the traffic. In order to get a reservation you MUST have a Disney account. That’s an easy process if you don’t have one already, just go to Disneyland.com (or Disneyworld.com) and set up an account. I recommend doing that before May 2nd.

As for May 2nd itself, I’d set most of the morning aside to get a reservation. The process could be frustrating with the website traffic. Take a sick day or hide your computer screen from your boss for the morning! If you want to try to visit the land twice, I’d recommend that multiple people in your party try to get reservations, perhaps for different days. I don’t know if Disney will limit the reservation to one per person but I’d be prepared for that system and have a friend ready to go for an additional day. That also would act as a backup plan in case something goes wrong on your end.

To avoid the entire reservation process and get one automatically, book at a Disneyland resort (Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian Hotel, and Paradise Pier Hotel) between May 31st through June 23rd. A quick search through the Disneyland website shows that those hotels have availability albeit at absurd prices. While the reservations are valuable, I’m not sure they’re worth the $500+ for a reservation at the hotel. That’s a decision I can’t make for you but if it were me, I’d take my chance getting a reservation on the website instead of paying those extreme costs.

Having said that, we absolutely recommend staying within walking distance of Disneyland Resort if you are going in this time frame. The resort will have an influx of crowds like never before and parking plus security will be a real headache. By staying on Harbor Boulevard or at a Disneyland Resort hotel, you can avoid the traffic and parking issues. This will also allow you to get to the parks early and take a midday break with ease.

We are still over a month away from the Galaxy’s Edge opening and will update this post accordingly. Along with that, we’ll add some touring plan strategy tips in the next month. As for now, just get a reservation on a date you’re visiting! May the odds be ever in your favor wrong franchise… Good luck!
