Oogie Boogie Bash is a separate ticketed Halloween party at Disney California Adventure. The party takes place from August through Halloween and offers unique characters, entertainment and the opportunity to stock up on a year’s worth of candy. Fitting the best of the event into a 5 hour span can be difficult and that’s where this itinerary comes in. In this post, we’ll share our strategy in how to best experience Oogie Boogie Bash!
Like all of our itineraries, the goal of this post isn’t to get to every single thing at Oogie Boogie Bash. We do fit most of the party’s offerings in but there are a few minor things left off in favor of a slightly slower pace. We’ve been to plenty of separate ticketed events and Oogie Boogie Bash is more laid back than many of them. Speeding through every second in order to get to the next thing is cutting off part of what makes this party special. Spend some time interacting with Ernesto or Maleficent, stake out a good spot for the street party or wait an extra few minutes to meet Pain & Panic. With a good plan, you can fit most things in without rushing.
In that frame of mind, use this itinerary more as a guideline instead of a strict schedule. If there’s something you don’t want to do, skip to the next option. If there’s something that tops your priority list and I don’t mention it then add it in! I promise I’m not disguised as Dr. Doofenshmirtz, ready to relentlessly heckle you the moment you break from this plan. Above all else, have fun at Oogie Boogie Bash!
After testing it out several times over the years, we do think that this plan is effective. We’ve never missed out on something we want to experience while following these steps. The simple strategy is to do a popular meet & greet to start the party, wait out the busyness of the first hour and then kick it into gear after the first street party passes by. We’ll detail that in step-by-step form below.
The one downside to this itinerary, and the party in general, is that it doesn’t favor those with really young kids. Chances are that they’re going to get sleepy, which is not ideal for a party that starts at 6 PM. I’m not a parent so I won’t pretend to have good advice. Instead, I’ll stick to my fun uncle (you best believe I’m a fun uncle) advice and say let the kids ride a sugar high from all that candy for the late hours! Again, not a parent…
Two small pieces of housekeeping before we get to the actual itinerary – the first is that the party generally runs from 6-11 PM but Oogie Boogie Bash tickets allow entry into California Adventure starting at 3 PM. This itinerary begins about an hour before the party. What you do with the other time is up to you! We do recommend eating an early dinner (around 4:30 or 5) so that you won’t spend too much time seeking out regular park food during the party. The other note is that PhotoPass is included with your party tickets. Get as many pictures as you can, if that’s your thing!
Finally, this itinerary is for Oogie Boogie Bash and therefore doesn’t include any attractions. Fitting in a couple during the party is definitely an option but this plan chooses to stick to the unique offerings. Let’s get to it!
Line Up for Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters (at Least) 45 Minutes Before Oogie Boogie Bash Begins
Oogie Boogie Bash has two extremely popular character meets. Our favorite of them is Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle dressed up as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. We love the characters dressed up as different characters bit and these 3 play the part. Like I said, this is a very popular meet so we recommend getting in line at least 45 minutes before the party begins. Keep in mind that the earlier you line up, the less time you’ll wait when the party actually starts. There’s some diminishing returns there but we recommend grabbing something cold to drink and waiting in your longest line of the night. 45 minutes early should lead to less than a half hour wait once the party actually starts. That’s what we’re aiming for!
You’ll find the line for these characters inside of the World of Color viewing area, closer to the Pixar Pier bridge. If this meet & greet doesn’t interest you at all, go for Mickey, Donald and Goofy in their Kingdom Hearts best. That’s also in the World of Color viewing area but close to the Golden Zephyr. We do have that meet later in the itinerary but it’s a good alternative in case you don’t like Clarabelle cosplaying as Mary Sanderson. I don’t know who wouldn’t like that but I digress…
The main emphasis of this first step is don’t start with a treat trail. Lining up early for them is not as efficient as lining up early for a character meet & greet.
Loop Around Pixar Pier, Syndrome Treat Trail
Once you’re done with the character meet, set out around Pixar Pier. We prefer walking toward the Golden Zephyr, doing the character-less treat trail right by there and continuing around Pixar Pier that way. You’ll pass by the Kingdom Hearts characters but they’ll have a long line at this point so keep moving. There is a Magic Key gift and photo op under Silly Symphony Swings, for those that it applies to. The gift is worth getting, the photo op I recommend skipping.
Once you’re into the Pixar section, you’ll run into the Syndrome treat trail. This is very popular and not our favorite of the trails because of the queueing but it’s still worth doing. The line will look very long but it moves fast and you’ll be through in about 10 minutes so enjoy Syndrome as he tries to recruit you!
By Incredicoaster, there will be a few characters with smaller waits. That includes Edna Mode, Woody, and a few characters from Ratatouille. Woody is out during normal park hours so we usually skip him but the others are more unique and shouldn’t have a long line. Jump in for the meet & greet if you want to!

Cars Land Treat Trail & Characters
At this point, you should be about an hour into the 5 hour party. As you finish the Pixar Pier loop, head toward Cars Land. It doesn’t really matter which way you get there. None of the offerings in Cars Land are standouts during Oogie Boogie Bash but they all are fun. All of the Cars characters are dressed up in costumes, with Mater as a vampire and Red as a clown being our favorites. You can find characters these during regular park hours so this isn’t overly unique.

Cars Land also has a treat trail in the Radiator Springs Racers overflow section. It’s the worst of the treat trails but doesn’t take any time at all if you’re in the area. My dad taught me at a very young age that if there’s candy, you might as well get it!
First Showing of Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake Near Ariel’s Undersea Adventure
Once you’re done in Cars Land, head back toward Ariel’s Undersea Adventure near the World of Color viewing. Stay on the same side of the street as the attraction and grab a spot for Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake. This street party will first stop to perform right in front of the attraction and we’re looking for a quick exit here instead of a prime viewing spot. Show up just a few minutes before 8 and you should be able to find some standing room viewing.
There’s a little merch booth just past the entrance to Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, we like to stand just to the left of this. More on why that’s important in a second but this is one of our biggest tricks of the party and one that will make the whole night go smoother.
As for Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake, it is not to be missed! Have you ever wanted fantastic choreography and dancing set to a Haunted Mansion theme? Of course you have, you’re a human! This street party, which is in place of the Frightfully Fun Parade in 2026, includes some of the best dancing we’ve ever seen in a Disney production. It’s a must-do at the party.
Right as the street party is ending and the last character is by you, make a beeline toward Grizzly River Run. This is where standing on the Ariel side of the street comes into play, because if you’re on the other side you have to wait for the entire parade to pass and join the masses. We don’t want that!
Villains Grove & Yzma Treat Trail
The beeline is made so that you can get to Villains Grove before everyone else! This atmospheric walkthrough attraction is one of the best parts of Oogie Boogie Bash, using the nature setting of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail as a canvas for cool lighting and projection effects. There’s several villains represented here but the grove is more mystical than anything else. It’s a surprisingly beautiful experience, specifically the last 5 minutes.
Speaking of beautiful, it’s time to see Yzma! Oogie Boogie Bash’s newest character has her treat trail in the Grizzly River Run queue. The line will look long but it moves fast, similar to Syndrome earlier in the night. This is our favorite treat trail at Oogie Boogie Bash in 2026 not only because it’s a great pathway that includes Yzma but Maleficent is waiting at the end. It’s a 2-for-1 and both characters are amazing!
Hollywood Land Treat Trails & Characters
That takes care of the Grizzly Peak section of the park so make your way to the front of California Adventure. Take a quick break if needed, we’ve been on the go! There’s projections to watch on Carthay Circle, a post 9 PM treat trail near the park exit and a host of characters meeting under the icon. There’s also coffee at Starbucks if you need one more push. Stop around here for a few minutes if you need or want to.
Following that, we’ll have a run on treat trails throughout Hollywood Land. These are all a blast and you can get through them pretty quickly even while fully experiencing them. Starting from Carthay Circle, we recommend going to these 5 treat trails in this order:
- Dr. Doofenshmirtz (Disney Jr. Building)
- Oogie Boogie (Animation Building)
- Hades (Hollywood Backlot Stage)
- Judge Doom (by Hollywood Lounge)
- Ernesto de la Cruz (Hyperion Theatre queueing area)
Around the Hades stop is where Pain & Panic as well as Meg from Hercules meet. If you want to meet those characters now is the time to do it. They’re just off to the side of the Monsters, Inc. attraction.
Hollywood Land is full of amazing options during Oogie Boogie Bash. You can easily get to them all thanks to their fast moving treat trails and that’s exactly what we recommend.
Get Caught Under Agatha’s Spell
After you finished being marveled by Ernesto de la Cruz, keep moving to the Marvel land. There are a few superheroes out and about to meet here. I believe all of them meet during a normal park day but there might be a few special additions in Avengers Campus.
The reason you’re here is for the final character treat trail featuring Agatha in the Ancient Sanctum. I’ve said it before but I don’t know what the Ancient Sanctum is. I do know that if there’s something called the Ancient Sanctum then it’s worth seeing and that’s the case here. Along with Agatha’s charming and cunning banter, there’s some fantastic lamps to look at! Your mileage may vary on which characters you like at these treat trails but they’re all worth doing thanks to the fast moving lines.
Kingdom Hearts Characters
Assuming you have broken free from whatever spell Agatha has cast on you, it’s time to come full circle and get back to the Kingdom Hearts characters. If you make it there by 10 or 10:15, you should be in the clear to meet them. I should say that this is playing a slight risk. We don’t think there line will be backed up enough to worry at this point but they do cap the character meet lines as to not go past the 11 PM closing time. If this stop is really important to you then consider making it earlier in the night, possibly right before or during the first Swinging Wake.
Alternatively, if you have already gotten to the Kingdom Hearts characters or don’t care about this meet & greet then stay by Avengers Campus and watch your second viewing of Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake in Hollywood Land. That’s where the street party sets off on the second showing of the night, and this will afford you time to do something afterward.
Second Viewing of Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake
As you wrap up your time with Mickey & friends, Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake will be wrapping up the party. The street party will come from the opposite side of the park this time, meaning that the final stop will be back in front of Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. Grab the best spot available and enjoy again! Chances are that this will be the final few minutes of Oogie Boogie Bash so if you’d rather use the time elsewhere then go for it!
Fill in the Gaps & Enjoy the Vibes
In that frame of mind, the second viewing of the street party could be replaced by a number of things. Maybe you’re feeling festive and want to ride the Monsters After Dark version of Guardians? There might be some characters that you wanted to see but didn’t have time for earlier in the night. Heck, maybe you just really, really love candy and want to go through the same treat trail as many times as you can. If you follow this plan, then you should probably have seen everything of substance at the party once, give or take a few characters, with about half hour to spare. We prefer Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake to most anything so that’s our recommendation but there’s not a bad way to go to finish off Oogie Boogie Bash!
That’s our itinerary for Disneyland Resort’s Halloween Party. It’s a busy night and your feet will be tired by the end. Your stomach may also not feel the best, depending on how much candy you snacked on. But Oogie Boogie Bash is a blast and it’s attainable to hit all of your priorities in one night! We hope this plan was helpful and that you have a great time at the party.
