During the Disney Experiences Showcase at the 2026 D23 Expo, Imagineering and Marvel revealed new details about the Spider-Man roller coaster and land coming to Shanghai Disneyland. The coaster was announced in 2024 and is nearing completion. In this post, we’ll share the new details before adding in our commentary. Let’s get to the news!

At Shanghai Disney Resort, a new Spider-Man-themed land and thrill attraction is coming soon. This will be the first land anywhere in the world dedicated exclusively to Spider-Man, home to the new Shanghai division of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B. for short, of course).
Fans may recognize W.E.B. from the Avengers Campus locations at Disney California Adventure and Disney Adventure World, as the organization was set up by Tony Stark to encourage young people to experiment with new technology.
Inside the new land, Peter Parker and his friends have created a new set of Spider-Bots to help assemble their experiments and help them build their brand-new coaster.
In the spirit of W.E.B., Disney Imagineers are is collaborating with local artists to create more than 20 murals throughout the new land, celebrating all things science, Spidey, and the Avengers. The Imagineering Pavilion at the D23 Expo shared sneak preview of their work on display.
The final piece of the coaster track has now been installed, what could go wrong with the Spider-Bots help? We’ll find out in the coming years.

Commentary
Like with Hong Kong Disneyland, I hesitate to add in-depth commentary when I haven’t been to Shanghai Disneyland. This will be a shorter write up because it’s unfair for me to try to judge the fit of this coaster inside of a park I’ve never been to.
The coaster does look very fun in the videos, photos and description! Having an animatronic Spider-Bot within the coaster adds intrigue to the thrill ride and I’m very interested in how it will enhance the on-ride experience. With the coaster looking like it’ll be intense, it’s hard to know how much guests will actually be able to see the animatronics. Even if it’s just in quick passing, I love to see the integration of physical props.
It’s also interesting to see them go back to this Spider-Bot idea. Personally, I can’t say that W.E.B. Slingers has ever grabbed my attention both in terms of the ride or the plot points. From the details given in this news, this feels like a very similar story as that attraction. That plot will probably work better on a coaster but it’s interesting that these Spider-Man attractions aren’t digging into their treasure trove of villains. Give me the Green Goblin or Doc Ock!
As far as the land goes, the murals looked cool in the Imagineering Pavilion. They appear to be a combination of street art and comic book style, with lots of color and characters ready to burst out of the mural.
Translating that to a whole land will be interesting. I think this spot will feel more comic book-esque than other Disney Marvel lands. That’s probably a good thing as the real world looking Avengers Campuses aren’t especially interesting design wise.
Having the whole land devoted to Spider-Man is also exciting. With the massive success of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the friendly, neighborhood superhero has staying power. This coaster looks as if it will be a great use of that character and should end up being the best Spider-Man ride in the world.
