Just a couple of weeks after Earl of Sandwich opened it’s new permanent home at Disneyland Resort, the upstairs tenant is ready to open their doors. In this case, the new portion is run by one of the most well known celebrity chefs in the world – Gordon Ramsay. The Carnaby is a 1960’s inspired gastropub, serving some of Ramsay’s signature dishes. In this post, we’ll share details on the opening as well as a look at the menu.

This restaurant is technically in a soft opening and will be serving dinner from 4:30 PM until 10 PM each night during this time frame. The website and menu hint at lunch and brunch offerings in the future but those menus and details will come at a later date. Reservations are open for dinner and can be made via OpenTable, much like Din Tai Fung when it first opened. If you want to dine at The Carnaby, we recommend getting reservations as soon as possible.
Let’s take a look at the menu! Photos are below or you can click this link.

The menu isn’t far from what we expected, going heavy on UK and pub inspired dishes. There are a number of items we’re excited to try, including the famous Gordon Ramsay Beef Wellington. Thinking about the number of times I’ve seen him yell at a contestant on Hell’s Kitchen while trying to make Beef Wellington is reason enough to get the dish. Another reason is that it looks incredible!

Along those lines, the Prime Rib Trolley is intriguing and a unique offering. Guests will be served tableside, as the chefs slice off pieces of the prime rib. There are plenty of fish options that look delicious, as well as burgers and the tikka masala.

There’s a variety of price ranges, despite everything being a little more expensive than I’d like. Gordon Ramsay at the Carnaby will have some early buzz thanks to the name attached but it will be interesting to see how it will fare after the initial rush. I’m guessing it will do well in this space! We just arrived at Walt Disney World as this news dropped so our review will have to wait a couple of weeks but we’ll share one soon.
Until then, let’s take a look at the inside of the restaurant.

The design looks like a nice blend of the gastropub inspiration and open air California dining. I like the modern touches mixed in, and I’m eager to see it with my own eyes.
Downtown Disney has been revitalized in the last few years, specifically on the dining side. The excellent Paseo, Centrico and Tiendita anchor the middle of the outdoor entertainment district. We love eating at all of those spots! Din Tai Fung, The Carnaby’s neighbor, is also fantastic and extremely popular. Some smaller spots have opened up in the last few weeks including Earl of Sandwich, Big Boi Lumpia and Hawaiian Ice. All three add some quality quick spots to the table-service heavy area.
Gordon Ramsay at the Carnaby isn’t the final piece of the puzzle either. Porto’s is under construction right next to the Disneyland Esplanade. That space is gigantic so it’s still a long ways away from opening but we can’t wait for it to actually debut at Disneyland Resort. We’ve been waiting 4 years already since that announcement!
Arthur & Son’s Steak and Bourbon and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ’s fates are a little muddier. The area has been cleared (RIP Tortilla Jo’s) but there hasn’t been any progress on the site in at least a few months. Honestly, it feels like longer than that. I would be surprised if that restaurant, as it was announced, is ever built. Something else being announced in its place in the next year seems most likely, at this point.
Melissa would have me mention the shopping has also improved at Downtown Disney. That’s less of my thing than eating. I’m very good at eating. But the shops are noticeably more eclectic and inviting. We’ve stopped in to get a Duffy & Friends Blind Box at the Storyland Boutique more times than I’d like to admit in the last month.
All that to say, Downtown Disney has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years. Gordon Ramsay at the Carnaby should be another positive step for the entertainment district, adding a different kind of dining experience relative to what’s already there. We’re excited to check the spot out soon and will have a review up once we dine there!
