New Fireworks Nighttime Spectacular Coming to Epic Universe

Universal Orlando has announced that a firework led nighttime spectacular, called Universal Celestial Goodnight, will be coming to Epic Universe beginning on July 7th. This will be the park’s first full on, consistent nighttime spectacular since opening in the summer of 2025. In this post, we’ll share the Celestial Goodnight’s details before adding our commentary. Here’s everything Universal had to say about their new show.

This summer, Universal Orlando Resort will invite guests to cap off their day of world-class thrills at the groundbreaking Universal Epic Universe theme park with a new nighttime spectacular, Universal Celestial Goodnight. Running nightly beginning Tuesday, July 7, the must-see show will envelop all of Celestial Park into a captivating display of dancing fountains, breathtaking lighting effects, and a spectacular fireworks finale that will illuminate the nighttime sky.

Developed by Universal’s award-winning entertainment team, Universal Celestial Goodnight pays tribute to the inspiring characters and adventures found within the portals of Epic Universe. Each portal will play a part in the show, from the playful fun of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and the soaring excitement of How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, to the magical adventures of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic and the legendary Universal Monsters of Dark Universe.

With nearly 600 synchronized light fixtures, over 350 larger-than-life fountains, and seven million LED lights embedded throughout Celestial Park, guests will watch as every inch of the vibrant world from Luna to Apollo glistens with meticulous choreography set to a high-energy musical score. The show will culminate with jaw-dropping fireworks that will serve as an epic farewell after an action-packed day at the park.

Commentary

This announcement hardly comes as a surprise as Universal has been doing some testing in the last few weeks, as well as building infrastructure so a show of this scope could happen. The biggest surprise, at least for me, is that the show was announced just a few weeks before it will debut.

July 7th is an interesting date, being just a few days after the holiday weekend. I would expect Epic Universe to have something planned for the 4th of July, whether that’s a special holiday presentation or a soft opening of Universal Celestial Goodnight. If you happen to be at Epic Universe that weekend, keep your eyes open for some nighttime show.

Turning our attention to the actual show, this is great news for Epic Universe and Universal Orlando as a whole. Prior to the addition of Celestial Goodnight, only Universal Studios Florida has a true nighttime spectacular called CineSational: Symphonic Spectacular. That show is solid, especially if you enjoy movies.

Epic Universe has always run a fountain show around closing time in Celestial Park, in front of Grand Helios. That’s also a nice show but I’ve always thought of it as more atmospheric than an actual spectacular. To be sure, those fountains are very impressive and make me bullish about everything that could be offered by an all out show.

It doesn’t appear that Celestial Goodnight will include drones like CineSational does but the press release does mention a lot of lights! 7 million LED lights as well as 600 synchronized light fixtures, to be exact. I’ll be curious what that actually looks like within the show. I would expect the best place to view would be in front of the fountains but those light fixtures are probably throughout the spine of Epic Universe, augmenting the fireworks from wherever you watch.

Adding a nighttime show to the park is going to be interesting from a crowd calendar perspective. I would think that this will entice more people to stay later at Epic Universe. In theory, that should spread the crowds around a little more during the day. That’s good news for the colossal lines that gather midday at Epic. Maybe a few more people will take breaks midday or have longer lunches. While a nighttime spectacular won’t directly impact crowds at noon, it can play a broader role in the crowd flow.

The downside to adding a fireworks show (if there is one) is born out of my selfish preferences. We already adore nighttime in Epic Universe. For whatever reason, that place clears out quickly once 6 or 7 PM hits. Rides with 200 minute waits earlier in the day turn into walk-ons nearly! Adding in a nighttime spectacular might mess with those blissful nights where hardly anyone is inside the 4 portals.

Honestly, the difference should be minimal in that aspect. And I’d take having a fireworks show over not having one any day of the week. Adding Celestial Goodnight will make Epic Universe more complete, another step in the right direction for a theme park that already does many things right.

Here are a few stray and final thoughts on the news:

  • I’m interested to see if the show will just stick to the 4 IP’s represented in the different Epic Universe portals. Will Celestial Goodnight be self-referential and include moments from different attractions in the park? I hope so!
  • Is ‘Universal Celestial Goodnight’ a good name? Well, no. You thought I’d leave that question open ended, didn’t you? Universal’s Celestial Goodnight would have made more sense to me, I’m not sure why they didn’t get possessive. There’s a lot of syllables in those 3 words – 10 if I counted correctly. Also, am I the only person that finds ‘Celestial’ hard to say? I will leave that one open ended. This isn’t a terrible name but isn’t my favorite on first blush.
  • Adding this show makes the idea of opening up Celestial Park to everyone seem like an even worse idea. It’s been a confusing saga in the first place but now, with specialty entertainment added, I’m not sure why Universal would offer that free of charge. I think letting certain groups in to the center of the park for the evening is fine, theme parks do that sort of thing all of the time. But just having the middle of the park completely open to everyone doesn’t seem like a good idea. Maybe they’re hoping this idea will bring some really tall people in so they can provide shade for others? Something tells me that’s not it.
