Confisco Grille is a table-service restaurant in Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Residing in Port of Entry, this restaurant offers an array of options including Asian, Greek and Mediterranean inspired dishes. Like the menu, the atmosphere is eclectic and showcases bits of what guests will find throughout the park. In this post, we’ll review Confisco Grille’s atmosphere, food and value.
Before Epic Universe opened in 2025, food at Universal Orlando was a lowlight. There were exceptions to that but, by and large, their restaurants could not keep up with any of the Walt Disney World parks. This always felt like a huge oversight in Islands of Adventure, which opened in the last 30 years and appears to have the space and infrastructure to support better dining options.
To be fair, the park isn’t completely bare of quality options. Mythos Restaurant is a solid table-service spot and Three Broomsticks looks great inside, with decent food. Port of Entry at Islands of Adventure was a mystery to us though. It’s an area that looks like it’d be full of interesting restaurant options but we’d hardly spent any time there until trying Confisco Grille.
This table-service restaurant sits at the end (as you enter the park) of Port of Entry, on the right hand side. Steps away from The Incredible Hulk Coaster and Seuss Landing, the outdoor view from Confisco Grille is satisfying with all of the water around. The patio seating is worth checking out if the weather is cooperating.
Inside of the restaurant we find a theme that plays into Islands of Adventure’s story and design. I’ve always been a fan of the self-referential theme park restaurant, whether that be Tiffins in Animal Kingdom, Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom or Magellan’s in Tokyo DisneySea. Confisco Grille isn’t as elaborate or thought out as those examples but it does have the same idea of being inspired by the park that it sits in.
The restaurant welcomes world traveler into a space with plenty of easter eggs from the different lands in Islands of Adventure. Seuss Landing and Toon Lagoon props outnumber and stand out more than other lands because of how colorful they are. As the name implies, Confisco Grille acts as a customs building as you enter Islands of Adventure. All of these items from different parts of the park have been confiscated. It’s a clever setup and one that ties everything together but I do feel as if the idea is a little half baked.
The building itself is pretty, with stucco walls and wooden beams throughout. There are some pretty light fixtures that hang over diners, augmenting the Spanish architecture. While not fully explored, the building can feel like a fortress.
If you couldn’t tell, we’re mixed on Confisco Grille’s atmosphere. The restaurant had enough theme and decor to be interesting but left a few pages unturned. There were quite a few tables fit into the multiple dining rooms but it never got overly crowded. I imagine it would be quite loud in the middle of the room though so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re wanting a respite from the crowds.
Moving onto the food, here’s a look at the menu. Confisco Grille tries to keep the global inspiration going with Italian, Thai, Mexican, American and Mexican dishes all offered. On one hand, that means there’s something that will likely interest everyone in your group. On the other hand, they might be trying to do too much.
We started our meal with the Loaded Nachos. These consist of crisp tortillas with beef and bean chili, cheddar cheese sauce, tomato red onion salsa, shaved jalapeño, cilantro lime crema and house-made guacamole. The beef and bean chili along with the crema were highlights of an otherwise forgettable appetizer. It’s hard to make bad nachos, in my opinion, and these were certainly adequate but just nothing to write home about. Even if you tried to write home, it might not get through the Confisco Grille rigorous customs and then would end up hanging by some obscure character from Rocky & Bullwinkle in the rafters. That’s not the worst fate now that I’ve written it out. At $16.95, the nachos aren’t worth getting unless you’re really craving nachos.
This is the Birria Beef Burger. The ingredients are grilled Angus beef, topped with slow cooked birria beef, Menonita cheese, shaved cabbage slaw on a toasted brioche bun and served with French fries. The burger is obviously a little overindulgent. While the individual ingredients were fine on their own, this was greater than the some of its parts. That’s coming from a true carnivore. I liked the burger but didn’t love it, as I’ve had much better birria before. But this was tasty enough and a good choice for one of the cheaper entrees at $24.95.
Finally, here is the fish we had at Confisco Grille. On that day it was Corvina, one of our favorite kinds of fish to get while in Florida! While the fish was tasty, the whole dish didn’t fully come together. That option isn’t on the menu anymore but the Miso Salmon does share some of the ingredients and comes in at $33.95.
The food at Confisco Grille was just fine, all things considered. Most of the meal was pretty forgettable and at a slightly higher price range than it was worth. But we also didn’t dislike anything we had, instead it was just fine.
Sadly, the restaurant didn’t improve our opinion of the Islands of Adventure dining scene. The atmosphere and decor were decent tied together with an interesting idea. The food was okay. But nothing about Confisco Grille rose much above average and I don’t recommend going out of your way to eat there.
Overall Rating – 7/10
