Napa Rose Menu Sneak Peek: Refined Classics Meet Culinary Innovation
Chef Andrew Sutton, the culinary director of signature dining at Disneyland Resort has been at the helm of Napa Rose since its opening in 2001. He worked alongside Napa Rose Executive Chef Clint Chin to develop exciting culinary offerings that highlight seasonal produce, pay homage to California wine country cuisine, and infuse international ingredients, textures, and flavors to this new look menu.

The dynamic duo behind the delectable desserts at Napa Rose are Executive Pastry Chef Jorge Sotelo and Pastry Chef Nubia Renteria, who each bring more than 25 years of experience creating confectionery masterpieces at Disneyland Resort.
Alongside Jess Soman, Napa Rose general manager, and Patrick Kirchen, Napa Rose wine director, the incredible team at Napa Rose is expertly prepared to take you on an epicurean adventure.
We’re excited to share a first look at some of the exquisite dishes you can expect when Napa Rose reopens.

Over in the bar and lounge, you can partake in delicate bites, such as Beef Tartare topped with Osetra caviar, Bone Marrow Custard, or Laughing Tiger, which is a reimagining of the fan-favorite Smiling Tiger Salad.

If you are opting to dine in the main dining room, you’ll find dishes such as American Wagyu N.Y. served medium rare with a grape fennel mustardo, an elegant dish of Oak Roasted Forest Mushrooms, or a Sorpresine Pasta served with Dungeness crab and Santa Barbara uni butter.

For your sweet tooth, consider the beautifully dreamy Nantes Carrot Cake Cremeux or the Elevated and Reminiscent Valrhona Chocolate Bar.

Commentary
With the caveat that you can never be sure based on concept art, we think the new Napa Rose design looks great. To be honest, we thought it looked great before the renovation although it was starting to show its age in places. The concept art seems to be going in a similar classy California vibe, invoking fancy Napa wineries and a relaxed setting.
I’m happy that the restaurant isn’t departing from its roots. The design in there was always great but it was in need of a touchup. I’m guessing that the renovation classed the place up a bit and the outdoor section will be a great addition. I’m no longer worried about a total departure from the Napa Rose we knew and loved.

Speaking of that Napa Rose, there’s no doubting that the food had gone down in quality post-pandemic. We still had an excellent meal or two there but the ceiling had been hit in the 2010’s, if not earlier, and everything since had been different degrees of good or great but not exceptional.
These new menu items look lofty. It seems like Andrew Sutton & co. have a Michelin Star on their minds with some of the photos that were released matched with the name of the dishes. This appears to be an inspired menu and one that could easily restore Napa Rose to former glory.
The downside to that, if it’s true, is that eating there will cost an arm and a leg. And we’re not talking a cheap arm and a leg either. Napa Rose was always an expensive endeavor and I’m guessing that meals here will run well into the hundreds now, depending on your dining style.

Personally, I’m okay with that tradeoff. Before I go too far on that take, I should say that I want Disneyland Resort to have exceptional food that’s affordable. Sure, I’d rather Napa Rose go earn a James Beard award and Michelin Star while having delicious entrees in the $30 or $40 range. Even that price will be high to people, and that’s fair!
But my thought is that I’d rather see Disneyland Resort go very high concept at their signature restaurant instead of dumbing it down to make everything more affordable. This is partially a rising tide argument. If the best restaurant at Disneyland Resort is world class then we might see an uptick in all of the food around. Creativity in Disneyland dining is needed and has been a hallmark of the parks when they are at their most successful.
I’d also just like Napa Rose to be incredible. There are plenty of great restaurants at Disneyland Resort already but, at least for the last few years, there hasn’t been a ‘best of the best’ option. Paseo is close and even the slightly worse Napa Rose in the early 2020’s was pretty darn good. But there was room for improvement and an ambitious menu is a good sign if nothing else. Those that want something more affordable probably weren’t looking to dine here anyway so let’s see how amazing this can get!
With all that said, we’ll anxiously be awaiting for a few menu prices to surface. We will try Napa Rose out in its first month of reopening but I’d rather not have to sell some plasma to do it. If that’s the price though, we’ll do it in the name of research. It’ll be very exciting to have Disneyland Resort’s signature restaurant back. I’m hoping the new look and new menu can return it to as good as it once was.
