Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen Review

Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen is a counter-service restaurant in Tokyo DisneySea’s Mermaid Lagoon. Diving deep inside of King Triton’s Castle will lead guests to a gift shop inside of a whale and a pizza place. And people say magic doesn’t exist! Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen does offer a few different menu items but mainly sticks to the pizza and calzones. In this post, we’ll review Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen’s atmosphere, value and cuisine.

Reviewing restaurants constantly is fun! There’s a game in it for me, trying to dine at all of them in a specific park before new ones open. There are plenty of restaurants in the Disney Park Universe (DPU, if you will) that don’t get much attention and I get a kick out of being thorough. That’s the upside and it is part of a very surreal, happy life.

The downside is that I get to the end of the restaurant list at a theme park and I find myself, a 35-year-old man, alone (because I know my wife won’t want to eat here) in a very kid oriented area, ordering multiple items in the name of research and knowing that there’s likely better food just a short walk away. Now, I’m not suggesting that I showed incredible bravery and honor in choosing to dine solo at Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen. But if someone else wants to suggest it then I’ll take the compliment!

I hope some of the sarcasm seeped through that paragraph and gave you a smile. In reality, Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen wasn’t some scary deep sea dive. I wasn’t overly excited about dining here but I generally like Tokyo Disney Resort’s pizza and Mermaid Lagoon is very unique for being a kid-focused theme park land (or port).

After you’ve marveled at the outside castle and descended deep down inside of Mermaid Lagoon, Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen is beyond all of the rides, toward the exit of the building. Like most counter-service spots at Tokyo Disney Resort, guests will go to an ordering bay and purchase their food before moving to the counter and picking it up. Then you go find a seat. Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen is fairly crowded but the lines move fast.

Once you have your food, there are two different seating sections to choose from. They have a similar vibe but there are some differences. The tables toward the back of Mermaid Lagoon have glowing fish overhead, which are quite charming. There’s also pink walls and pillars covered in shells. Rockwork is on the outskirts of the restaurant, being a little bit of a wall between the seating area and the rides. And of course, the walls are covered in murals portraying some ocean creatures.

When I was eating there, it didn’t strike me as strange that this section’s walls are pink. Now that I’m looking at the photos, I’m very curious as to why they went with that color. Am I missing some Little Mermaid lore? Are they dancing and singing above the water? Please drop your theory in the comments.

The other section is slightly smaller and closer to the exit. While there are less tables, this spot felt less cluttered and not as overwhelming. We’ve got the blue and green ocean on the walls here as well as coral(?) overhead. There’s not a big difference in atmosphere but I’d recommend this side if you want something a little calmer. Plus, there’s a giant whale right beside the area!

Overall, the atmosphere here works well enough. It extends the inside portion of Mermaid Lagoon to a counter-service restaurant which leads to plenty of nits to pick – exposed ceiling, over the top theme, etc. But it’s cute! And Sebastian’s Calypso Kitchen beats a lot of other counter-service spots I’ve had dinner in. That said, it’s on the bottom rung of DisneySea’s restaurant themes. That sounds like an insult but there’s tough competition it’s going up against. I mean, there’s a restaurant inside of a volcano in one section and one inside of a castle in another!

Moving to the food, here’s a look at the menu. There are some specialty items that change out seasonally but most of the entrees stay the same. Sets are generally around 1,500 yen (just under $10 USD as of December 2025) and include fries and a drink. Individual items are between 900 and 1,000 yen (around $6 USD).

Sebastian's Calypso Kitchen seafood calzone TDS (1 of 1)

This is the Seafood Calzone which is the better of the two items I tried. Filled with a cream sauce and a mix of shrimp and calamari (and maybe one other item but I couldn’t quite tell), there was a nice range of textures in here. The cream sauce was good and TDR generally has good seafood, this option included. The Seafood Calzone has shown up on different menus throughout the resort and is worth a try if you like seafood. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it (Tokyo Disneyland’s Seafood Pizza is better) but it’s pretty good.

Sebastian's Calypso Kitchen sausage pizza TDS (1 of 1)

The more picturesque of the options was the Sausage & Meat Sauce Pizza. It’s in a cool star shape! Unfortunately, that’s about the best thing I can say about it. I really didn’t like the melted cheese, especially once it was mixed in with the sausage. That sausage tasted like Lil’ Smokies dipped in a barbecue sauce. I didn’t feel like any of the ingredients were particularly good. The crust was the highlight, offering some tasty bread to pair with the not as tasty pizza.

Well, they can’t all be winners. I can count the bad meals I’ve had at Tokyo Disney Resort on one hand and this happens to be one of them. But it’s not as if this was egregious. The atmosphere was cute and if someone handed me the Seafood Calzone right now then I’d happily eat it. It’s also hard to be mad at a meal where I order 2 entrees and it amounted to about $13. There’s just much better options throughout DisneySea and very little reason to dine here when considering that.

Overall Rating – 6/10
