Upgrades Coming to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot!

Only four years have passed since Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened at Epcot but the attraction is set for a major change. The ride will turn from 3D to 2D, in a quick refurbishment happening from November 10th through 13th. Disneyland Paris sports the same attraction, already in a 2D format. In this post, we’ll share the news from Disney World and add in our commentary.

In a quiet and somewhat unexpected move, this paragraph showed up on the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction page on the Walt Disney World website today:

“Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will experience a short downtime Nov. 10-13, 2025 and will return with enhanced digital visuals and clearer imagery projected in 2D. Remy’s fans will spot new props and lighting enhancements when they are added to the queue and attraction over the next few months.”

A month or two ago, Disney Paris Resort announced a long refurbishment of Ratatouille : L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy. That announcement promised upgraded scenery and touching up the technical aspects of the attraction, including making the attraction permanently 2D. Unlike Disney World, this closure will last multiple months into the spring of 2026.

With that in mind, I have a hard time expecting a huge change to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure outside of switching to a 2D experience. That change alone makes the attraction significantly better in my opinion. While it won’t solve other problems with the ride, the visual switch is absolutely necessary. This seems to be part of a greater trend of 3D being phased out of theme park attentions.

The 3D in Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was especially bad. Jumping from physical sets to the screens with below average 3D effects was jarring and took me out of the ride. Some parts worked well enough while others looked downright bad. In that way, a 2D ride will be far more enjoyable!

After riding the Paris version in 2D mode earlier this year, both Melissa and I agreed that this was our preferred version of the ride. There was less adjusting for the eyes and the screens were so much sharper. It stands to reason that this will be the same for Epcot.

This news comes just a week after Disney World announced an upgrade to Frozen Ever After’s animatronics. I was thrilled with that piece of news too. Providing a much needed aesthetic boost to these two rides was important both for the longevity of the rides as well as an instant upgrade to Epcot. The former is easy to explain, rides should be made up to their full potential. Disney World hasn’t always done that but I’m very happy to see them moving in this direction.

The instant upgrade is important to the park as well. Test Track 3.0 opened this summer and has been extremely popular, eclipsing Cosmic Rewind most days! After that project had finished, the park had a pretty blank slate as far new things to offer. Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom are both receiving large expansions while Epcot and Hollywood Studios are waiting for their turn.

Seeing even minor upgrades to two of Epcot’s most popular family rides could cause some extra interest, giving the park a boost both in the holiday season (in the case of Remy’s) and in 2026 for both attractions. Disney will be able to market the rides as improvements for what could end up being a soft 2026 in terms of debuts.

Do I expect Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure to make a major jump in our Epcot Attraction Rankings? No, but it sets the stage for an even large refurbishment and upgrade like we’re seeing in Paris. Just moving to 2D alone will make the ride significantly better and this is absolutely the right thing to do for the park. We’re eager to see Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure upgraded in just a month from now.
