Zootopia: Better Together is a new attraction coming to Animal Kingdom. The 4D show takes the place of It’s Tough to Be a Bug, sitting underneath the Tree of Life. This post shares the debut date for the new attraction as well as details and our commentary. Let’s get to the news!

Zootopia: Better Zoogether! Opening Date
It’s time to clap your paws and click your claws because the all-new new 4D show Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opens Nov. 7 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
What to Expect at Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
When you make your way over to the Tree of Life Theater, you’ll find you arrived just in time to the main stage for the Zoogether Day festivities with familiar furry faces and new friends, like Heidi Howler – a slick-talking wolf who hosts the Zoogether Day LIVE! broadcast with excitement, energy, and quite a bit of howling. Awooooo!
Zoogether Day, a celebration of unity amongst the diverse biomes across the city, will be recognized with special performances such as ice-skating spectaculars from the heart of Tundratown! Synchronized swimming direct from Marsh Market! Tiny mouse drone shows soaring over Little Rodentia! And of course, a musical finale by superstar Gazelle – all of which we’ll see from the livestream watch party.

The new attraction features the talented cast from the films like Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman returning to lend their voices to these beloved characters. Contributions from filmmakers Jared Bush (who helped write the script) and Byron Howard (who directed the animation – all of which was done by the talented artists at Disney Animation) helped the Walt Disney Imagineering team bring this project to life. Zootopia: Better Zoogether! brings us all deeper into the beautiful world of the animal metropolis explored in the original Zootopia as well as the new feature, Zootopia 2, coming to theaters November 26.
Speaking of diving deeper into the world of Zootopia, keep an eye out for more information coming later this fall about special previews for cast members, Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members alike.

Judy and Nick Character Greetings at Animal Kingdom
Not only will you see Judy and Nick at Zootopia: Better Zoogether! but the pair will be greeting guests at Discovery Island near the Tree of Life at the Zoogether Day Gathering Spot.
You’ll find them sporting new looks from Zootopia 2, and they’ll be delighted to give you a hug and shake your paw.
Fun for the Whole Herd
This new 4D show at the heart of the Tree of Life is the perfect addition to a wild day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Zootopia: Better Zoogether! is a reminder that the natural world is profoundly interconnected, and we are no exception.
We are called to take actions and make choices that benefit our worlds – from Savanna Central and Tundratown to the far-flung corners of our beautiful planet.
Commentary
This project has been in development for 2 years and I’m thrilled to see an opening date. Finally! Animal Kingdom is in desperate need of things to do and this is the start of what should be a fruitful few years of additions. I’m not going to speculate on why this project took this much time to debut, mainly because it’s a mystery to me. When announced, I thought this would be a relatively quick changeout. This does have me hoping for an update to the theater’s infrastructure, similar to what we saw at the new Hollywood Studios shows, Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.
I am a little surprised that Disney announced this now and not a week later at Destination D. I’m guessing they have updated models to showoff before actual panels start, so they thought that they might as well spill the beans a little early. Whatever the case, I wouldn’t expect many announcements from Destination D on Labor Day weekend at this point.

The setup for the 4D film will be interesting to follow. Animal Kingdom is home to a really well done variety show, Festival of the Lion King. The difference is that Zootopia: Better Together! is a 4D attraction and doesn’t (or at least, likely won’t) feature live actors. I’m curious how well that will play in this setting.
As a whole, Disney has started moving away from common story archetypes. Less traditional villains, love interests or plot twists. This is true in both their animated movies and theme parks. It has worked well enough in movies, at least for me. I’m less convinced on the theme park side of things, with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure being a prime example.
Zootopia: Better Together! sounds like it will be in stark contrast to It’s Tough to Be a Bug. Against all odds, that was one of the scarier attractions in Walt Disney World but, boy, did it have some personality. My biggest worry with the new film is that not enough plot will lead to a lack character and rewatchability. Time will tell!
Adding Zootopia characters to meet near the attraction is a no-brainer. I’m hoping they aren’t given to prominent of a spot by the Tree of Life, just because that is such a pristine view. Having the characters there will add to the festive atmosphere. Not to mention, the debut comes right around Christmas season at Animal Kingdom, so Merry Menagerie will also be ongoing. Get ready to be overwhelmed by cuteness!
There’s only so much to garner from announcements like this. We’re just in wait and see mode at this point. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer as Zootopia: Better Together! debuts in just a few months now. We’re excited to have another attraction added to the Animal Kingdom roster!
