Kid and Character Focused Entertainment Announced for Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary

Disneyland Resort’s 70th Anniversary additions have largely focused on adding entertainment and this latest round of announcements is no different. This time around, the additions seem to be adding options for the young ones, with a new Disney Jr. show and several ways to interact with beloved characters. In this post, we’ll share the news and add a little bit of commentary on the additions. Let’s get to it!

New Show, “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!,” Coming to the Disney Theater

Discover an all-new show, “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!,” debuting at the Disney Theater at Disney California Adventure park on May 16, 2025. This new stage production—inspired by Disney Jr.’s global hit series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and the upcoming “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+” debuting later this summer—features upbeat original songs, plenty of interactive fun for the little ones, and appearances by beloved Disney characters to sing and dance with. In “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!,” Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse welcome guests to Mickey’s house for a fun-filled party. Their friends Goofy, Daisy, and Pluto haven’t made it yet, so Mickey and Minnie take the party on the road to find them, ultimately uniting everyone for a high-energy finale!

Commentary

There’s a reason that this news was announced less than 2 months before the anniversary celebration begins. These aren’t headliner additions but there are some decent options here. I don’t have a ton to add about each one but will run down the options quickly.

The Disney Jr. shows in Disney Parks are one of my biggest blind spots. I don’t know much about the IP that these are based on and would be mildly embarrassed to be a childless adult with a large camera watching. With that in mind, I just kind of stay away. That said, this seems like a nice idea for the little ones and I’m sure it will make both kids and parents happy. Like they say, “Teach your children well” so that Mickey Mouse can find Pluto.

I don’t typically comment on meet & greets but the thought of Rex trying to wrap his arms around me in a warm embrace makes me laugh. The arms in the photo look surprisingly long, unlike a T-Rex. I’d like to see them half that size. If you haven’t figured this out by now, I don’t have very meaningful commentary to offer on this round of news.

My only gripe comes with Pixar Pals Playtime in the Fantasyland Theatre. This is returning to the parks after debuting for Pixar Fest last summer. My gripe isn’t with those beloved Pixar Pals themselves, it’s more with the space this takes up. The 70th Anniversary seems like a great time to debut a new stage show at Disneyland, something the resort is practically void of. Instead we get some backyard barbecue games, photo ops and clips of Sadness dancing along with other Pixar characters. The last bit will make us all laugh, myself included, I just wish there was a little more offered here.

Last but probably not least is the Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast. I’m definitely not the target audience for these dance parties (no one wants to see that) but they do make me laugh while passing by. My biggest request is that they make them as weird as possible and if Stitch comes out dressed in Elvis garb and dances to a techno remix of Burning Love then the world will naturally heal.

All of these additions add to an already impressive entertainment lineup at Disneyland this summer. No individual show or meet & greet announced today will likely move the needle on whether guests book a trip or not, but more options on things to do while at the parks is never a bad thing. And when Rex can’t fully wrap his tiny arms around me but I still feel loved, maybe that will be worth the price of admission.
