At the D23 Expo tonight, news was shared for Marvel attractions that are coming to both Shanghai and Hong Kong Disneyland! In this post, we’ll share the news and add our own commentary in the coming days. Let’s get to the news!
Shanghai Disneyland
Webs at the ready, an all-new Spider-Man thrill attraction is coming to Shanghai Disneyland! Peter Parker has gotten himself — and us — in a bit of a tight spot. We’re going to follow HIM – at very high speeds – to get us out of trouble.

Hong Kong Disneyland
Expanding Stark Expo, there’s an all-new attraction coming to Hong Kong Disneyland. Tony Stark has invited his friend, and new Stark Industries intern, Peter Parker to showcase some new inventions. Unfortunately, that also means this has caught the attention of one of Spidey’s most formidable villains. While trying to help Spider-Man protect the new tech, guests caught in the middle of the action!

Commentary
I’m going to keep this commentary section brief, as I don’t want to comment too much on parks I’ve never been to. Hong Kong is on the list and might happen in the near future, for what it’s worth! But our hopeful travel plans are not why you’re here.
Both of these Spider-Man attractions have cool concept art. The Shanghai one piqued my interest more than Hong Kong, to be honest. Judging from the concept art, which is always a risky game this early in the process, that coaster looks like a straight thrill ride. Really unlike anything we have at Disneyland and only matched by Tron in Walt Disney World, as far as outdoor coasters. Adding a Marvel coaster to a castle park is an interesting move and I’ll be curious to see how it fits.
As for Hong Kong, I think it’s very cool that there will be a Spider-Man attraction that features Doc Ock. So far, Marvel attractions worldwide have been strangely void of villains. I just want everyone to know that I’m resisting the urge to make a joke about the Marvel movie franchise here. Doc Ock is one of the most recognizable villains, and one of the best, so his inclusion should make for a very fun ride.
Both of these attractions revolve around Spider-Man, the hero that’s Marvel’s safest bet right now. The other most popular, Deadpool, made his way on stage at D23 Expo to introduce him. Fitting superhero attractions into a castle park feels odd but that’s the traditionalist in me talking. Adding a thrill ride to these relatively new parks should help round them out and be meaningful additions to the future.
