Disneyland Resort to Reopen on April 30th!

With California recently relaxing their criteria for theme parks reopening, we knew it was only a matter of time before we had an opening date for Disneyland Resort. Now that date is here! Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will reopen their gates on April 30th. In this post we’ll break down the brief details and add in a few thoughts of our own.

Both of Disneyland Resort’s theme parks will open April 30th with the already planned and sold out Touch of Disney going on at DCA until April 19th. The Grand Californian Hotel will open their doors on April 29th and then add the DVC rooms to the fray on May 2nd, as previously announced. Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen at a later date.

As was stated a few weeks ago, Disneyland Resort will open at a dramatically reduced capacity (we’re guessing 25% but it could be 15 or 35 depending on the tier Orange County is in) and only to California residents for the time being. I don’t expect the latter restriction to last long and think we might even see it repealed by the opening date. Disneyland Resort is simply following the state of California’s regulations and recommendations in that regard.

The resort will also open with enhanced safety measures. Via the Disney Parks Blog:

Operational changes will be in place at the theme parks and hotels to align with guidance from health authorities and learnings from our parks around the world to promote physical distancing, enhanced cleanliness and reduced contact. This guidance is fluid and applicable at any given time as community situations change. With that guidance, many factors will determine the timing of when offerings may be available. Cast members will be available to explain our new procedures and answer questions you may have.

Essentially, Disneyland Resort will be opening with the same mask mandate, hand sanitizing stations, enhanced cleaning and physical distance markers that we’ve seen at the other resorts. Likewise, I expect that both Disneyland and DCA will be attractions and food focused before bringing entertainment back at a later date.

Disneyland Resort will also open with a reservation system where guests will need to reserve the park and date they’re going to ahead of time. The system is not yet active and we will update you with more details on that when they are announced.

While the date is about a week later than I guessed, we couldn’t be more thrilled by this news. Disneyland is our home park and it would be easy to wax poetic about the resort reopening. There will be days for that but for now we’ll just say that we’ve dreamed of this reopening for a little over a year and it’s a relief and a joy to see an actual date given! We’ll be back with more details when they become available.

  1. Yay!!! We finally have a reopening date to look forward to. I won’t be able to attend because I’m not a California resident, but Disneyland is my home and I just hope that things go well and the parks will slowly return to normal as the restrictions ease overtime.
