Every few weeks our writers get together and answer a Disney related question.  Here is this week’s!

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Earlier this week, all of the rides at Hollywood Studios were shut down due to a cooling system issue. If you had to pick a park to be in without going on rides, which would you choose? If you pick one in Japan then also list one for the American parks.

Melissa – Just to be the first one to say it, I’d totally choose Tokyo DisneySea. Oh my word, there is so much to look at and enjoy at this park! Sure, the rides are also amazing, but they aren’t why I love this park. From the moment you walk through the front entrance, you are in a completely different world. You can totally spend a whole day just walking around the park and not getting onto any rides.

Now, as for an America Park, I’d probably choose Animal Kingdom. Most of the attractions at this park aren’t rides. There would be lots of back pathways to wander and animals to watch. The park design is the most impressive, there wouldn’t be a shortage of things to do while at Animal Kingdom without rides.

Cassie – I could definitely spend an entire day in Disney California Adventure without going on any rides. In fact I have done this many times. When I had an annual pass sometimes we would go and the wait times would just be ridiculous. Since I went so frequently it really didn’t bother me when I couldn’t ride rides. My friend Dom and I especially liked busy days at California Adventure because we would head over to the winery and do a tasting of the wine flights paired with a cheese board. It was actually quite relaxing to just sit and people watch and drink wine watching everyone hustle and bustle around the park.

Darin – Because I was blessed with a trip to Japan, DisneySea is the obvious choice, but my American Park choice would be Epcot. Future World I could take it or leave it, but the World Pavilion is absolutely beautiful. I love how it represents so many different countries and it flows pretty well. If you get the chance walk this at night, it’s gorgeous.

Leslie – If I had to pick I’m probably going to choose between Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Of the parks I feel like these are the most aesthetically pleasing and if I’m going to be warm and without rides I at least want to be somewhere pretty. I’m mostly leaning towards animal kingdom since I feel some rides could still operate without the cooling system like Kali River Rapids and the safari. Looking at the animals and relaxing in some of the caves to beat the heat would be nice too. Otherwise I’d probably enjoy a walk around the world showcase before heading home if they couldn’t get the cooling system working.

Mackenzie – I also agree with Melissa and Darin with going to Disney Sea in Tokyo. This is by far my favorite park with or without rides. It is beautiful. My American choice would be Epcot. Mainly I could spend days going through World showcase. I love learning about each country and going into the shops and restaurants. Both these parks are amazing a night.

Matthew – My choice would definitely be Epcot. Animal Kingdom would also be fine, but it has a few rides I would be disappointed to miss, especially if the safaris are down. At that point it’s basically a zoo, which is great but not quite as unique or exciting.

While Epcot has worthwhile rides, I mostly go there to walk around, look at stuff, and eat. World Showcase has so much to see, between the shops, sights and shows of the different countries, plus way more good food than anyone could eat in a day. Of course, I haven’t been there in a while and I know the front half of the park is in bad shape, so this answer might change after we visit next summer.

Andrew – I don’t think I’m going to break the trend here. DisneySea is the easily my pick because of how beautiful each land is. There is no theme park that suspends belief like that one. For my American pick, I’ll go with Animal Kingdom. The animal walking trails are beautiful and the atmospheric shows add a great energy to the park. I don’t know if it is allowed within this question, but doing a full day of shows at Animal Kingdom would be fun as they have some excellent options, headlined by Festival of the Lion King.

I was tempted to pick a castle park because no one else has but Disneyland and Magic Kingdom both feature so many attractions that it’d be somewhat depressing to not go on a single one. If I was a local I would frequently drop by Disneyland in the evenings for dinner, Fantasmic!, and some late night photography.
