Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera is a table-service restaurant at Walt Disney World’s Riviera Resort. The restaurant resides on the top floor of the hotel and serves a mix of French and Italian fare. Topolino’s Terrace takes part in the Disney Dining Plan as a signature credit (when applicable) and offers an Annual Pass and DVC Discount to diners. In this post, we’ll review dinner at Topolino’s Terrace including the restaurant’s atmosphere, food and value.

When Disney’s Riviera Resort opened in late 2019 it brought with it some excellent dining options. The counter-service breakfast is the best at Walt Disney World and the whole resort seems to be filled with decadent desserts in every public area. Knowing that and seeing a few other reviews, our expectations were high for Topolino’s Terrace. Disney World also seems to up their game when the restaurant is on the rooftop. I don’t have the scientific data to prove this but there seems to certainly be a correlation.

For those unaware, Disney’s Riviera Resort is inspired by the French and Italian Riviera. That’s where the restaurant gets its name as Mickey Mouse is known as Topolino in Italy. Fittingly, Topolino’s acts as a character meal for breakfast before being a fancy dinner locale later in the day. That said, there aren’t many nods to Mickey throughout the restaurant as it keeps the design pretty modern and sleek.

The restaurant’s seating area is spacious and has large windows all around the building. If you’re lucky enough to secure a table by a window then you’ll be able to stare out at the Riviera, Caribbean Beach, and the Skyliner. Epcot can be seen in the distance and this will be a wonderful spot to watch fireworks whenever those return.

These large chandeliers are throughout the restaurant and are the main eye candy. I wouldn’t call the design of Topolino’s simple but there’s not some great theme or story to it. Rather it’s just a really nice restaurant on the top of this hotel, similar to California Grill at the Contemporary. Granted, California Grill comes with an up close view of Magic Kingdom so this atmosphere doesn’t quite match the splendor of that.

I think the décor is just fine. Modern design isn’t always my favorite and I’d prefer the carpet and color scheme be a little different here. It doesn’t detract from the meal but, as I wrote in the trip report a few days ago, I would have much rather sat outside and enjoyed the view than been in the actual restaurant.

I do prefer the bar area’s aesthetic over the actual restaurant. Speaking of, if you don’t have a reservation at the restaurant then you could always try out the bar as they serve the full menu. There’s more contrast in the color tones to me in this area and it blends classic with modern design quite well.

A more secluded area of Topolino’s has a view into the kitchen. Like the bar, I’d prefer sitting here than the bigger dining room but the difference in negligible. While dining at Topolino’s guests can visit the terrace anytime they want and soak in the views.

I’m not sure if/when this outdoor section will be open but I’d love to lounge around out here for a while. This patio(?) is gorgeous, combining all of the best thematic elements of the Riviera in one stop. The view is beautiful, although there are better in Disney World.

Overall, I like the atmosphere at Topolino’s Terrace and could understand why some love it. It’s an upscale restaurant that certainly looks the part. There are a few design choices that I would have done differently but I’m writing that off as personal taste rather than mistakes. Let’s get to the food!

A brief look through of Topolino’s menu shows that appetizers range from $13-$17, entrees have a wide range from $32-$54, and desserts are $12-$14. Those are certainly signature dining prices but it’s on the lower end of those. The menu has changed slightly even from a few weeks ago and I’d expect things to come and go a little more often than a typical table-service restaurant.

We tried the Ricotta as an appetizer and came away very impressed. The Ricotta is served with Black Pepper on top, an Aged Balsamic, and a Tomato Chutney is served to the side. As a whole the dish is incredibly rich and is best shared. The Ricotta has a very strong flavor and that’s cut well with the Balsamic and Black Pepper. Even better was the Tomato Chutney. Both of these complimented each other so well, with the Chutney adding a brightness to the otherwise very heavy dish. At only $14, this is a good value and so full of flavor that I’d absolutely recommend it.

For one of our entrees, we ordered the Rigatoni. This includes Braised Chicken Sugo, Broccolini Rapini, Wild Mushrooms, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Unlike typical Rigatonis, this was served with a creamy base instead of a tomato base and that was a welcome surprise. The Braised Chicken blended in well with the pasta and was cooked to perfection. The noodles were large and delicious, topped with just enough cheese. This is one of, if not the best pasta dishes I’ve had at Walt Disney World and is supreme comfort food. It’s also surprisingly affordable at just $32. For a signature WDW restaurant and the quality of this dish, that’s a great value.

For our other entrée we ordered the Classic Sole Meunière. This comes with Sea Beans, Capers, Lemon and Petite Potatoes. The dish consists of Sole cut into three pieces and then filled with Potatoes, Sea Beans and Capers. The fish itself was flaky with a strong lemon flavor. It was a very good piece of fish. For some bites the lemon was a little overpowering, others it was perfect. The ingredients inside of the fish were all delicious with the potatoes being the main component. Honestly, I still don’t really know what a Sea Bean is but I think I have to revoke my blogger ID if I admit that so keep it between you and me. The dish as a whole was light and fresh, albeit in a very large serving. If you love seafood then you will probably love this dish. At $50, this is more in line with the usual prices you’d find at most signature restaurants. It was very good although I might have preferred the Rigatoni overall.

For dessert, we tried the Pistachio Mousse which is served with Chocolate Cake, Lemon Curd and Morello Cherry. This was good but not great. I liked the Mousse overall and it went up a notch once you got to the Lemon Curd inside of it. The thin Chocolate Cake underneath didn’t add much to the dish but combining that, the Mousse, and the Cherry into one bite made for a solid dessert. This isn’t a bad price at $14 but pales in comparison to the next dessert we tried!

This is the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake filled with Caramel and served with Chantilly and Raspberries. The cake itself was chocolaty goodness and even better once the caramel center was reached. Add in the delicious cream and raspberries and this ends up being one of the better Disney World desserts I’ve ever had. It is very rich and I’d recommend sharing this but get it, you won’t regret it. It’s $14 but I’d pay $20 for it.

Overall, we came away very impressed with Topolino’s Terrace food while liking the atmosphere. The signature restaurant has a few good value options on the menu and we liked every item we tried. While we could pick nits with the atmosphere, it’s a beautiful place to have a very good meal making it one of the best Walt Disney World restaurants.
