Planning a trip to Tokyo Disney Resort can feel like a monumental task for first-timers. While many of the aspects of Tokyo Disney Resort resemble what we see stateside, there are some unique parts of planning including where to stay. We’ve briefly covered the topic in a previous post but this post will give a broad overview of that topic, showcasing the three general options of where guests can stay as well as a few pros and cons on each options. Relative to the American resorts, I prefer the lodging options at Tokyo Disney Resort. This is largely due to the value and overall cost. On top of that, the quality of the hotels we’ve visited (and read about) is extremely high with some premium locations. All this to say that lodging at Tokyo Disney Resort shouldn’t be much of a worry but instead an intriguing part of the planning stage. Let’s get to the different categories of lodging.

Tokyo Disney Hotels

Tokyo Disney Resort has 5 hotels officially linked to (and owned by) the resort.  Those 5 are Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta, Disney Ambassador Hotel, Toy Story Hotel and Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel. We’ll cover the latter in a separate paragraph. The other four hotels are all in close proximity to a theme park. Disney Ambassador Hotel and Toy Story Hotel do offer buses (or the monorail) to the parks and isn’t quite as close as the other two. Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is across a walkway from Tokyo Disneyland and Hotel MiraCosta is literally inside of DisneySea. The resort monorail will take guests between parks (and a few other stations) so transportation is quick and easy. The Ambassador, Tokyo Disneyland and MiraCosta Hotels offer incredible amenities and are strikingly beautiful. Toy Story Hotel is more budget friendly and doesn’t have as many frills.

The downside of these hotels is the price. The deluxe hotels are all $300+ dollars per night and will usually cost even more than that. While splitting between the cost between two couples is a good option and makes it more affordable, this price will prohibit many from staying at any of the three. We loved staying at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and found Hotel MiraCosta to be the best Disney hotel in the world (at least that we’ve tried) but staying at one of these hotels will definitely not be an every trip occurrence. If you have the means though, then I think one of these hotels are well worth booking. The location can not be beat, nor can the service. Toy Story Hotel is more in the $200-$300 range if that appeals to you. Hotel MiraCosta is our top pick thus far thanks to the location and theme. Naturally, it is also the most expensive!

The Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel is a different story though. This hotel is the ‘value option’ for Tokyo Disney Resort and the location certainly fits the description. To be honest, I hesitated in including this hotel in the category because it is so different from the previously mentioned hotels. Ultimately, I kept it on the list because it is a Disney hotel. Celebration Hotel is roughly a 20 minute bus ride away from the parks making it inferior to the hotels in this category and many in the next category. Where this hotel does succeed is being cheaper than the others and offering a complimentary shuttle to the parks. I find the price comparable to many in the next category. Ultimately, we don’t recommend staying here especially compared to the other Disney resorts.

Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels

Think of this category as good neighbor hotels. The Tokyo Disney monorail line has four stops on it – one at each park, one near the JR train station and one by the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels. There are six of these hotels including a Hilton and Sheraton, brands that Americans might feel more comfortable with. All of these hotels come with incredible locations. As a point of reference, this is much like the Polynesian at Walt Disney World. You are a short walk and short monorail ride away from both parks.

These hotels also offer promising prices. While the costs differ throughout the year and change depending on the hotel, you can regularly find them for half the price of the Disney hotels and sometimes even cheaper than the Disney Celebration Hotel. If you are on some sort of budget and don’t want to splurge then I’d absolutely recommend staying at one of these hotels. While you may miss out on a few amenities and a little extra Disney ‘magic’ these hotels more than make up for it in cost and location. The Hilton especially gets some excellent reviews.

Tokyo Disney Resort Partner Hotels and Other Places Throughout Urayasu and Tokyo

The last option is the equivalent of staying off-site. This is likely the cheapest option since the choices are nearly unlimited. Tokyo Disney does list partner hotels and those will be closer than many other options. We’ve had good luck at Airbnb’s throughout Japan and that may be your closest and cheapest option in this category.

Tokyo is a an incredibly big city, to state the obvious. Tokyo Disney Resort doesn’t actually reside in Tokyo proper but instead in one of the areas outside of Tokyo called Urayasu. Settling for a place in Tokyo to stay while visiting the resort for multiple days would make for an exhausting few days with long commutes. If you do opt for this option, check the address and routes to Tokyo Disney Resort before booking. While there are a few decent options, I’m not sure the slightly lower price will outweigh the convenience of the previous category.
