Questions of the Week

Question of the Week (7/2/18)

Every few weeks our writers get together and answer a Disney related question.  Here is this week’s question and answers!

Question of the Week: I’m fairly sure we do this every year but with 4th of July around the corner and the summer heat bearing down, where are a few of your favorite places to cool off in the Disney Parks and what tips do you have to beat the heat?

Andrew – Some of my favorite places to cool off are in Epcot’s World Showcase. The park gets pretty hot so going into the movies that a few pavilions have is nice, especially Impressions de France. At Disneyland or Magic Kingdom, the riverboat can be a nice way to relax and usually has a little bit of a breeze to cool things down.

Impressions de France

I have two tips for beating the summer heat. The first is to change-up your hours. Go back to the hotel in the afternoon to enjoy the pool and take a nap. Get to the park at opening and stay until close because it’s cooler and crowds will be avoided. Along with that, I recommend eating lunch at a table-service instead of at dinner. This gets you out of the heat during the hottest part of the day and lets your relax with something cool to drink.

Leslie – I’m not someone who is afraid to get wet to cool off, so I’m a fan of the water rides for instant relief. Kali River Rapids is nice even though I’m not much of a fan of the storyline. The drops are fun but not too intense. Lockers though are a must for cameras, never trust the little flap in the middle of the ride. On days I don’t bring my camera I just bring a baggie for my phone which works fine for me. Otherwise like Andrew I like to catch some of the shows I enjoy, typically I’ll choose to see Mickey’s PhilharMagic or Enchanting Tales with Belle. They’re both cute shows and Enchanting Tales has some movement so I’m not sitting the whole time. Other options I typically go with is dining during the hottest part of the day or go shopping cause you can never have too much Disney merchandise.

Melissa – If I get too hot when walking around the parks, my favorite thing to do is find an ice-cold fruity drink to enjoy while sitting in the shade or strolling down a non crowded path in any of the parks. My favorite go to drinks on those sunny days include (but are not limited to) the Mandarin Lemonade at Flame Tree Barbecue in Animal Kingdom, Dole Whip Float in Magic Kingdom/Disneyland, the Prickly Pear Soda at the Cozy Cones in California Adventures, Coke Icees in Epcot, And FREE ice-cold water from any quick service restaurant! (Free water tip – walk right up to the counter and ask for the water. If you look really hot and thirsty, they will normally give you a larger glass! 😉 )

I also like to use the times when it gets pretty sizzling outside to walk around the shops. Especially in Epcot and Hollywood Studios. It’s really easy to go from shop to shop without being outside in the heat for long. And like Leslie said, it’s a great way to add to your Disney merch collection!!!

  1. Disney has removed my old favorite cool down place which was Ellens Energy Adventure, i know it was a little (LOL) dated but it was a goofy way to hang out in the Ac for 40 minutes!

    • Good choice! That was a great way to cool down (or nap) while being a very original and unique attraction.
